1. 3-D numerical modeling of flow and sediment transport in rivers
Sammanfattning : The fully integrated 3-D, time dependant, hydrodynamic and sediment transport numerical model ECOMSED was used to simulate flow and sediment transport in rivers. ECOMSED was originally developed for large water bodies such as lakes and oceans and solves the primitive equations of RANS along with a second order turbulence model in an orthogonal curvilinear σ- coordinate system. 2. Persistent Organic Pollutants and the Environment : A Chemometric Approach to the Study of Halogenated Aromatics
Sammanfattning : Concern is growing about the environmental and health effects of persistent organic pollutants (POPs), many of which are halogenated aromatic compunds. The research reported in this thesis focuses on factors determining their behaviour and release into the environment. LÄS MER
3. Variation management for cost-efficient integration of variable renewable electricity
Sammanfattning : The aim of this work is to improve our understanding of how wind power and solar photovoltaics (PV) can be integrated into the electricity system in a cost-efficient manner. For this, a techno-economic cost-minimising model of the electricity system is used for a set of case studies. LÄS MER
4. Exploring the future low-carbon electricity system: impacts of nuclear power and demand patterns
Sammanfattning : To achieve the climate goals set by the Paris Agreement, the global electricity system is expected to transition towards a low-carbon electricity system. The future low-carbon electricity system is uncertain regarding both generation and demand. LÄS MER
5. Technical and Economic Conditions for Efficient Implementation of CO2 Capture - process design and operational strategies for power generation and process industries
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the operational parameters of fossil-based power generation and industrial processes in future energy systems that have stringent constraints on CO2 emissions, and, consequently, large shares of renewable energy. CO2 capture and storage, which is the focus of this work, is required for power and industrial processes that emit CO2. LÄS MER
