  1. 11. Environmental fate of chemicals released from consumer products : Multimedia modelling strategies

    Författare :Anna Palm Cousins; Michael McLachlan; Antonio Di Guardo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Multimedia fate model; urban model; PBDEs; phthalate esters; indoor environment; emissions; exposure; BDE 209; DINP; DEHP; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis was to assess the environmental fate and transport of chemicals emitted from consumer products through the development and application of modelling tools. The following hypotheses were tested: i) Multimedia fate models can be applied in a multistage assessment process to emerging chemicals when limited knowledge exists to identify the likely environmental fate and to direct further research; ii) the indoor environment acts as a source of anthropogenic substances in consumer products to the outdoor environment; and iii) chemical removal pathways in the indoor environment are important for the fate of organic chemicals in densely populated areas. 2. 12. Environmental intolerance : psychological risk and health factors

    Författare :Eva Palmquist; Steven Nordin; Gregory Neely; Berndt Stenberg; Michael Witthöft; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Environmental intolerance; stress; anxiety; depression; burnout; prognosis; recovery; spreading; coping; social support; co-prevalence; Västerbotten Environmental Health Study; idiopathic environmental intolerance; multiple chemical sensitivity; sick building syndrome; noise sensitivity; electromagnetic hypersensitivity; Psychology; psykologi; Epidemiology; epidemiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Environmental intolerance (EI) is an embracing term for a number of conditions characterized by a wide range of non-specific symptoms attributed to certain environmental exposures (e.g. pungent/odorous chemicals, residing in a certain building, electromagnetic fields and everyday sounds). EI often leads to lifestyle alterations (e. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Human exposure to persistent organic pollutants : Illustrated by four case studies in Europe

    Författare :Jana Weiss; Åke Bergman; Janice Huwe; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Human exposure; Persistent organic pollutants POPs ; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Sammanfattning : An extensive use of chemicals in countless consumer products has resulted in human exposure to several persistent organic pollutants (POPs). Sufficient knowledge about their chemical composition properties and environmental faith is required, to be able to proper risk assess and regulate the substances. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Sources, emissions, and occurrence of chlorinated paraffins in Stockholm, Sweden

    Författare :Ulrika E. Fridén; Urs Berger; Michael S. McLachlan; Jacob de Boer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chlorinated paraffins; CPs; polychlorinated n-alkanes; PCAs; Air; Dust; Analysis; Exposure; Emissions; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Chlorinated paraffins (CPs) are ubiquitous environmental contaminants. They fulfill all of the criteria (persistent, toxic, and subject to long-range transport) for persistent organic pollutants (POPs) according to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). 5. 15. Occupational exposure to brominated flame retardants : With emphasis on polybrominated diphenyl ethers

    Författare :Kaj Thuresson; Åke Bergman; Peter Fürst; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; occupational exposure; Brominated flame retardants; polybrominated diphenyl ethers; air and serum concentrations; decabromodiphenyl ether; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Sammanfattning : Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) are a diverse group of chemicals, which are used to slow down or inhibit the development of fires. BFRs are incorporated into a wide range of consumer products that are considered as potential fire hazards, such as TV-sets, household appliances, computers, and textiles. LÄS MER
