  1. 6. Protective Tribofilms on Combustion Engine Valves

    Författare :Robin Elo; Staffan Jacobson; Mikael Åstrand; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Internal combustion engine; valve; sealing surface; tribofilm; oil residue; test rig; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot tribomaterial; Engineering Science with specialization in Tribo Materials;

    Sammanfattning : Inside the complex machinery of modern heavy-duty engines, the sealing surfaces of the valve and valve seat insert have to endure. Right next to the combustion, temperatures are high and high pressure deforms the components, causing a small relative motion in the interface. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Numerical Investigation of Internal Combustion Engine Related Flows

    Författare :Martin Söder; Laszlo Fuchs; Martin Tunér; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CFD; LES; Engine; Intake; Compression;

    Sammanfattning : Internal combustion engines has been used for more than 100 years. The use of the abundant energy supply stored as hydrocarbon fueled unprecedented economic growth. The use of hydrocarbons increased the work output of human labor significantly, thus increasing the economy and prosperity. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Coupled Simulations of Cooling and Engine Systems for Unsteady Analysis of the Benefits of Thermal Engine Encapsulation

    Författare :Blago Minovski; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Oil system; Cooling system; Drive cycle; CFD simulations; Fuel consumption; Engine encapsulation; 1D simulations;

    Sammanfattning : A well-designed engine encapsulation can extend engine cool-down time significantly - on the order of 500 - 700%. This is expected to have a sensitive influence on the fuel consumption due to the increased probability for high oil temperatures at the following engine start, reduced length of the initial warm-up period and consequently, reduced friction losses. 4. 9. On Alternative Fuels for Internal Combustion Engines : A study of biodiesel, gaseous methane and methanol

    Författare :Ludvig Adlercreutz; Andreas Cronhjort; Ola Stenlåås; Magnus Sjöberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Gaseous methane combustion; spark ignition; single cylinder research engine; particle number; particle emissions; oil ash content; CO2; Green House Gases; engine testing; engine development; emissions; combustion chamber design; injector fouling; environmental impact; road transportation; Machine Design; Maskinkonstruktion;

    Sammanfattning :  This thesis covers some of the environmental impacts of internalcombustion engines running on alternative fuels. The focus of thestudies conveyed is the reduction of greenhouse gases and particleemissions, as these two factors are of great importance for the pathsthat road transportation is facing. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Engine Optimized Turbine Design

    Författare :Nicholas Anton; Anders Christiansen-Erlandsson; Magnus Genrup; Marc Gugau; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Turbocharger; Heavy-duty; Turbine; Axial; Radial; Machine Design; Maskinkonstruktion;

    Sammanfattning : The focus on our environment has never been as great as it is today. The impact of global warming and emissions from combustion processes become increasingly more evident with growing concerns among the world’s inhabitants. The consequences of extreme weather events, rising sea levels, urban air quality, etc. LÄS MER
