    Sammanfattning : The aim of this study is to demonstrate that recurrent formal and thematic patterns in Peter Carey’s novels suggest an interrelation between the works, and that an analysis which takes that interrelation into account can extract an argument concerning the ethics of storytelling from the texts. The issue of the status of fictional discourse receives prominent and complex consideration in Carey’s novels, and this study argues that Carey presents storytelling as an intentional mode of social interaction, defined and governed by extra-linguistic conventions.     Sammanfattning : This study attempts to show that, despite the scepticism as to the historicity of Arthur and the criticism of the genre of chivalric romance that arose during the English Renaissance, Arthurian motifs in drama and entertainments performed for the royal house remained highly relevant at this time. It is argued in this thesis that the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries were not a kind of Arthurian 'Dark Ages. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : This thesis situates the innovations of three English novels from the 1790s by three relatively unknown women writers, Jane West, Charlotte Smith, and Anna Maria Bennett, against the background of a literary climate characterised by highly conventional forms of fiction in either sentimental or satiric modes. Their innovations consisted in the fashioning of parodic forms that would balance emotionality with irony. LÄS MER
