    Sammanfattning : This is a study of the American writer Tim O'Brien's If I Die in a Combat Zone, Going After Cacciato, and The Things They Carried. Unlike previous O'Brien scholarship, which is either historical-biographical or formalistic, focusing on the contextual meaning or the literary merits of his narratives, this dissertation studies O'Brien's war narratives within a functional and communicative paradigm.     Sammanfattning : This investigation of verb contractions (e.g.I'm and it's) and NOT-contractions (don't and haven't) uses two samples of British newspaper text from 1994 and 1961. The 1994 material, compiled for this study, is carefully matched to the press categories of the well-known LOB corpus of written British English. LÄS MER

CENE, the Corpus of English Newspaper Editorials, was compiled for the purposes of this study and comprises editorials from the Daily Telegraph, the Guardian, and The Times chosen to represent periods at ten-year intervals.
