  1. 6. The role of industrial energy management in the transition toward sustainable energy systems : Exploring practices, knowledge dynamics and policy evaluation

    Författare :Mariana Andrei; Patrik Thollander; Anna Sannö; Patrik Rohdin; Kornelis Blok; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy management; Practices; Transition to sustainable energy systems; Knowledge-creation; Process innovation; Incremental and radical innovations; Voluntary initiatives; Digital technologies for energy efficiency;

    Sammanfattning : Mitigating climate change represents one of the most pressing challenges of our time. The EU has set the goal of reaching climate neutrality by 2050. The transition of manufacturing organizations is essential in reaching the EU’s goal, since industry accounts for circa 25% of the total final energy use and about one-fifth of EU’s GHG emissions. Sammanfattning : This thesis analyses how the Swedish forest industry has (re)acted regarding the energy transition and, in particular, regarding the reconstruction of the electricity and forest resources in Sweden during the 1989–2009 period. The thesis consists of four papers that analyse how the Swedish forest industry by means of energy management practices at individual pulp and/or paper mills, in corporate strategies performed by CEOs and boards of directors, and via its industry association, has dealt with mounting political and public demands for the industry to become ‘greener’. 3. 8. Re-viewing industrial energy-efficiency improvement using a widened system boundary

    Författare :Svetlana Paramonova; Patrik Thollander; Mats Söderström; Stefan Grönkvist; Linköpings universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Improved energy efficiency in industry is important for reaching the targets within the EU strategy for increased sustainability. However, energy efficiency is not always prioritised within companies, and the improvement potential remains large. This paradox called an energyefficiency gap is explained by energy-efficiency barriers. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Improved Energy Efficiency in the Aluminium Industry and its Supply Chains

    Författare :Joakim Haraldsson; Magnus Karlsson; Maria Johansson; Max Åhman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Energy is an essential resource in the daily lives of humans. However, the extraction and use of energy has an impact on the environment. The industrial sector accounts for a large share of the global final energy use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The largest source of industrial GHG emissions is energy use. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Industrial energy efficiency improvement – the role of policy and evaluation

    Författare :Christian Stenqvist; Miljö- och energisystem; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cement.; Pulp and paper; Decarbonisation; EU ETS; Energy management; Voluntary Agreement; Evaluation; Policy; Industrial energy efficiency;

    Sammanfattning : At EU and to a varying degree at Member State (MS) level, industrial energy efficiency improvement (EEI) is considered an attractive means for reaching political objectives of different dimensions, not least environmental. For energy-intensive manufacturing industry in particular, EEI can lead to cost reductions, improved profitability and competitiveness. LÄS MER
