1. Blood pressure, renal functional and structural changes, in normal and preeclamptic pregnancy
Sammanfattning : The kidneys play a pivotal role in the adaptive physiology of the pregnant woman, presenting some changes at term similar to the changes found in preeclampsia – a state of increased risk of fetal and maternal morbidity and mortality. The aim of these investigations was to explore possible similarities in blood pressure regulation, renal function and structure in normal term and preeclamptic pregnancy, to ascertain whether both conditions in fact are different degrees of an adaptive process in reaction to pregnancy. 2. New predictive and diagnostic biomarkers for preeclampsia
Sammanfattning : Abstract Preeclampsia is a serious pregnancy complication that affects 3-8% of all pregnancies leading to maternal- and fetal morbidity and mortality. The etiology is still not known in detail. Previous findings have shown an up regulation of the genes coding for fetal hemoglobin (HbF) in preeclamptic placentas. LÄS MER
3. Aspects of inflammation, angiogenesis and coagulation in preeclampsia
Sammanfattning : Preeclampsia is a major challenge to obstetricians, due to its impact on maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality and the lack of preventive and treatment strategies. The overall aim of this thesis is to increase the knowledge of the pathogenesis of preeclampsia including the role of inflammation, angiogenesis and coagulation, both locally at the fetomaternal interface and in the maternal circulation. 4. Maternal renal artery Doppler velocimetry in normal and hypertensive pregnancies
Sammanfattning : Background: The measurement of effective renal plasma flow (ERPF) by calculation of p-aminohippurate (PAH) clearance is an invasive, time-consuming procedure. In nonpregnant humans, the clearance of isotopes can be used to measure renal plasma flow, but the use of these radioactive substances during pregnancy is unsuitable. LÄS MER
