21. Endothelin and nitric oxide in the fetoplacental circulation
Sammanfattning : Background: Normal fetal growth and development depend on a satisfactory uteroplacental and fetoplacental blood flow. This will ensure an adequate gaseous exchange and nutritional supply to the fetus. LÄS MER
22. Unusual vascular responses in the umbilical artery, mediated by endothelin-like receptors
Sammanfattning : In this present study the population of endothelin-like receptors in the human umbilical artery was examined in vitro in different parts of the umbilical cord. Immunohistochemistry revealed ETB receptors in the endothelium and an uneven distribution of ETA receptors in the smooth muscle of the arterial wall, when comparing different parts of the umbilical artery. 23. The endothelin system and cardiopulmonary dysfunction in porcine endotoxin shock
Sammanfattning : The endothelium-derived peptide endothelin-1, acting via the endothelinA and endothelinB receptors, possesses strong vasoconstrictive properties shown to affect pulmonary and systemic circulation as well as cardiac function. During septic and endotoxin shock a marked increase in circulating plasma endothelin-1 levels is observed which is associated with morbidity, cardiac dysfunction and lung injury. LÄS MER
24. Endothelin and the regulation of peripheral and uteroplacental vascular tone during pregnancy
Sammanfattning : The mechanism behind the vascular adaptation during pregnancy is poorly understood. The fall in peripheral resistance, particularly in the uterine vasculature, is crucial for sufficient increase in uteroplacental blood flow and thereby for normal fetal growth and development. 25. The role of hypoxia for the development of diabetic nephropathy : Temporal relationship and involvement of endothelin receptor signaling
Sammanfattning : Diabetic nephropathy is one of the most common causes of end stage renal disease and develops in approximately one third of all diabetes patients. Disease progression is characterized by deteriorating glomerular filtration rate and escalating urinary albumin/protein excretion; both are used as clinical markers for disease progression. LÄS MER
