  1. 1. Endothelin receptor changes during inflammation in the lung

    Författare :Bengt Granström; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Andningsorganen; Respiratory system; Upregulation; Smooth muscle cells; Smoking; Sephadex; Remodeling; Rat; mRNA; Human; ETB receptor; ETA receptor; Lung; Endothelin; Asthma bronchiale; Contraction;

    Sammanfattning : Endothelin-1 (ET-1) is an extremely potent smooth muscle spasmogen well known from the vascular system but also active within the airways. The importance of its proinflammatory and co-mitogenic properties has become increasingly evident, the endothelin system also having been shown to mimic the signal features of asthma, COPD and other pulmonary diseases. 2. 2. Vardenafil and methylarginines in pulmonary hypertension

    Författare :Anna Sandqvist; Gerhard Wikström; Jörn Schneede; Amrita Ahluwalia; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vardenafil; pulmonary hypertension; pharmacokinetics; haemodynamics; right heart catheterization; adenosine; dimethylarginines; phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors; endothelin receptor antagonists; klinisk farmakologi; Clinical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a rare condition characterized by endothelial dysfunction and vascular remodelling, leading to increased pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) and right ventricular heart failure. Endothelial dysfunction is associated with an imbalance between vasoconstrictor compounds, such as endothelin and thromboxane A2, and vasodilator compounds, such as prostacyclin and nitric oxide (NO). 3. 3. The endothelin system and cardiopulmonary dysfunction in porcine endotoxin shock

    Författare :Michael Wanecek; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Endothelin; endothelin receptor antagonism; cyclooxygenase inhibition; endotoxin; sepsis; shock; pulmonary hypertension; cardiac dysfunction;

    Sammanfattning : The endothelium-derived peptide endothelin-1, acting via the endothelinA and endothelinB receptors, possesses strong vasoconstrictive properties shown to affect pulmonary and systemic circulation as well as cardiac function. During septic and endotoxin shock a marked increase in circulating plasma endothelin-1 levels is observed which is associated with morbidity, cardiac dysfunction and lung injury. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Endothelin in the pulmonary circulation with special reference to hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction

    Författare :Peter Holm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :bosentan; BMS-182874; ; BQ-123; BQ-788; endothelin; endothelium; hypoxia; hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction; pulmonary hypertension; receptor antagonism; TBC 11251.;

    Sammanfattning : A number of substances originating from the pulmonary endothelium have recently been found to be involved in the regulation of pulmonary vascular tone. Accumulating evidence suggests that endothelial dysfunction contributes to pulmonary hypertension, an important clinical problem often associated with hypoxemia. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Renal hemodynamics in renal artery stenosis and angiotensin II-dependent hypertension. Pathophysiological and diagnostic aspects

    Författare :Aso Saeed; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :angiotensin II; autoregulation of renal blood flow; color duplex sonography; endothelin-1; oxidative stress; renal artery stenosis; renal hemodynamics; renovascular hypertension;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with renovascular hypertension have a poor renal and cardiovascular prognosis. To improve the care of these patients, we need to increase knowledge about the pathophysiological mechanisms involved. LÄS MER
