  1. 1. Endothelial-leukocyte interactions

    Författare :Maria Olofsson; Diabetes - öpatofysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Histology; endothelial cell; leukocyte; apoptosis; mitochondria; heparin binding protein; vascular permeability; E-selectin; migration; rolling; cytochemistry; histochemistry; tissue culture; Histologi; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes early inflammatory responses involving interactions between leukocytes and the endothelial lining of the blood vessel wall. An adhesion molecule, E-selectin, which is upregulated on interleukin-1 activated endothelium, was found to mediate rolling between leukocytes and endothelial cells in vivo. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Molecular Mechanisms in Endothelial Cell Differentiation

    Författare :Emma Rennel; Pär Gerwins; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Ian Zachary; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pathology; angiogenesis; FGF-2; VEGF-A; signal transduction; in vitro angiogenesis assay; immortalized brain endothelial cells; H-Ras; tetracycline-regulated gene expression; microarray; telomerase immortalized human microvascular endothelial cells; differentiation; Patologi; Pathology; Patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis is the formation of new blood vessels from the pre-existing blood vessels. Blood vessels are composed of endothelial cells and supporting musculature. Angiogenesis is regulated by numerous soluble ligands and by cell-matrix interactions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Pancreatic extracellular communication. Applications to beta cell cultures and islet amyloid polypeptide aggregation

    Författare :Diana Ribeiro; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; in vitro pancreatic models; induced pluripotent stem cells; stem cell differentiation; insulin; 3D-culture; extracellular vesicles; glucose-stimulated insulin secretion; islet amyloid polypeptide; type 2 diabetes mellitus; extracellular matrix; adipose-derived stem cells; Diabetes mellitus; protein aggregation;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a disease with epidemic proportions due to increased incidences worldwide, persistence of undiagnosed cases, uncontrolled forms of the disease, association with cardiovascular complications, and lack of definitive treatment options. In particular, type 2 DM (T2DM) is placing an enormous financial burden on worldwide healthcare systems that will increase in the futureThere is a need to develop physiological assay platforms that provide functionally relevant models of diabetes in order to accelerate the discovery of new treatments. Sammanfattning : The phenomenon known as immunothrombosis has garnered increased attention over the last few years. Much work has been done to characterize the cross talk between hemostasis and the innate immune system. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Biological consequences of endothelial cell signaling

    Författare :Ross Smith; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Przemyslaw Sapieha; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; VEGFR2; Mechanosensing; Retinopathy; Biologi; Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Endothelial cells make up the inner lining of blood and lymphatic vessels, where they participate in functions vital to survival of the tissue; endothelial cells maintain vessel integrity, dynamically respond to the changing metabolic needs of tissues, and participate in many tissue-specific functions. Endothelial cells sense environmental cues which initiate signal transduction pathways that regulate behavior. LÄS MER
