  1. 1. Quality of Life in Patients with Endocrine Gastrointestinal Tumours

    Författare :Gunnel Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Endocrine gastrointestinal tumours; health-related quality of life; psychosocial; function; importance-satisfaction discrepancies; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; omvårdnadsforskning med medicinsk inriktning; Caring Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis is to investigate health-related quality of life (HRQoL), anxiety and depression in patients with endocrine gastrointestinal (GI) tumours. Patient as well as staff perceptions were assessed. HRQoL was studied with the EORTC QLQ-C30, and anxiety and depression with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Down syndrome : Growth and endocrine impact

    Författare :Åsa Myrelid; Jan Gustafsson; Göran Annerén; Ann-Christine Lindgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Down syndrome; growth; growth charts; body proportions; growth hormone; thyroid function; metabolism; body composition; cognition; motor development; Downs syndrom; tillväxt; tillväxtkurvor; kroppsproportioner; tillväxthormon; sköldkörtelfunktion; metabolism; kroppssammansättning; kognitiv förmåga; motorisk utveckling; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Down syndrome (DS) is associated with psychomotor retardation, short stature and endocrine dysfunction. Statural growth is a well-known indicator of health. The growth in DS differs markedly from that of other children and there is a 20 cm reduction of final height as compared to target height. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Acute pancreatitis - severity classification, complications and outcome

    Författare :Bodil Andersson; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; quality of life; costs; exocrine function; endocrine function; risk factors; acute pancreatitis; mortality; severity classification; artificial neural networks; pancreatic pseudocysts; treatment; complications; outcome; long-term follow-up;

    Sammanfattning : Acute pancreatitis, with an annual incidence of approximately 35 per 100 000 inhabitants in Sweden, is in most cases mild and self-limiting. Severe acute pancreatitis, affecting 10-15% of the cases is, however, associated with severe complications and even death. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The Microvasculature of Endogenous and Transplanted Pancreatic Islets : Blood Perfusion, Oxygenation and Islet Endocrine Function

    Författare :Richard Olsson; Per-Ola Carlsson; Leif Jansson; Arne Andersson; Thomas Linn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Cell biology; diabetes mellitus; pancreatic islets; islet transplantation; vascular engraftment; islet microcirculation; oxygenation; blood flow; protein biosynthesis; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes mellitus affects millions of people worldwide. Islet transplantation is a minimal invasive surgical procedure that restores euglycemia and halts the progression of diabetic complications. However, despite transplantation of islets from multiple donors most patients reverse to hyperglycemia within five years. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Insights into the effect of myocardial revascularisation on electrical and mechanical cardiac function

    Författare :Ihab Ramzy Guirguis; Michael Y Henein; Stellan Mörner; Reidar Winter; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; myocardial infarction; natriuretic peptides; echocardiography; ventricular function; atrial function; surgical revascularisation; speckle tracking echocardiography; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Acute coronary syndrome is known for its effect on cardiac function and can lead to impaired segmental and even global myocardial function. Evidence exists that myocardial revascularisation whether pharmacological, interventional or surgical results in improvement of systolic and diastolic left ventricular (LV) function, particularly that of the long axis which represents the sub-endocardial function, known as the most sensitive layer to ischaemia.
