6. Effects of mixtures of endocrine disrupting chemicals – Thyroid disruption and behavioural effects in fish models
Sammanfattning : Wildlife and humans are continuously exposed to thousands of man-made compounds, including chemicals that are able to act as endocrine disruptors (EDCs). These pollutants are able to affect vital processes including brain development, reproduction, metabolism and growth. LÄS MER
7. Exposure to Bisphenol A (BPA) and Metabolic Disruption
Sammanfattning : Metbolic disorders such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, liver lipid disorders and metabolic syndrome are increasing rapidly and have largely been attributed to genetic background and changes in diet, exercise and aging. However, there is now considerable evidence showing that other environmental factors, including environmental chemicals, may contribute to the rapid increase in the incidence of these metabolic diseases. 9. Phospholipase C β3, and its role in endocrine tumorigenesis
Sammanfattning : The Phospholipase C β3 (PLCB3) gene is located on chromosome 11q13, in the vicinity of theMultiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) suppressor gene. PLCB3 has been implicated inendocrine tumorigenesis based on findings of low expression in endocrine tumors, and the probableexistence of other suppressor genes located at 11q13. LÄS MER
10. Differentiation of Brain and Reproductive Organs in Birds : Effects of Environmental Contaminants
Sammanfattning : The first objective of this thesis was to investigate effects of endocrine disruptors on the developing brain and gonads of bird embryos. The substances studied were the insecticide methoxychlor, and nine UV-filters (3-benzylidene camphor (3BC), 4 methyl benzylidene camphor (4MBC), benzophenone (BP) 1,2 and 3, 4 hydroxy benzophenone (4 HB), 4 dihydroxy benzophenone (4DHB), benzyl salicylate (BS), and ethyl-4-aminobenzoate Et-PABA)), commonly used in cosmetic products.
