  1. 11. Brain Aromatase in the guppy, Poecilia reticulata : Distribution, control and role in behaviour

    Författare :Stefan Hallgren; Håkan Olsén; Bertil Borg; Julie Bakker; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oestrogen production; behaviour; anatomy; endocrinology; bio markers; endocrine disruption; Organism biology; Organismbiologi; funktionell morfologi; Functional Zoomorphology; Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Oestrogens are produced by aromatisation of androgens by the aromatase enzyme. In the vertebrate brain this synthesis has vital functions in nerve protection, cell proliferation and nerve development during injury respectively brain development. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Exposure and effects of naturally produced hydroxylated polybrominated diphenyl ethers in fish : Implications for Baltic Sea wildlife

    Författare :Johan Gustafsson; Lillemor Asplund; Pim E.G. Leonards; Marja H. Lamoree; Robert Letcher; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecotoxicology; Metabolomics; OH-PBDE; Algae; Cyanobacteria; Natural products; Thiamine; Health; Biomarker; Seasonal variation; Perch; Zebrafish; Flame retardant; Mixture; 6-OH-BDE47; Energy metabolism; Endocrine disruption; Neurotoxicity; OXPHOS; Environmental Chemistry; miljökemi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate if naturally produced hydroxylated polybrominated diphenyl ethers (OH-PBDEs) are causing negative health effects for Baltic Sea wildlife. In the laboratory, OH-PBDEs have shown to be potent disrupters of energy metabolism as well as endocrine disruptors and neurotoxins. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Biochemical characterisation of landfill leachate toxicity in fish

    Författare :Maria Linderoth; Lennart Balk; Ulf Rannug; Cinta Porte Visa; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; landfill leachate; endocrine disruption; fish; Environmental toxicology; Miljötoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Deposition remains the most common form of waste disposal in many parts of the world. As a terminus of the products consumed in our society a landfill may contain virtually all sorts of man-made chemicals. Despite this, the harmfulness of landfill leachate has not been extensively evaluated in feral organisms in the environment. LÄS MER

  4. 14. A step forward in using QSARs for regulatory hazard and exposure assessment of chemicals

    Författare :Aleksandra Rybacka; Patrik Andersson; Christina Rudén; Anna Linusson; Uko Maran; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; QSAR; in silico; non-testing tools; risk assessment; exposure assessment; hazard assessment; carcinogenicity; mutagenicity; reproductive toxicity; endocrine disruption; estrogen; androgen; transthyretin; sorption; Environmental Science; miljövetenskap; Computer Science; datalogi; Toxicology; toxikologi; Statistics; statistik;

    Sammanfattning : According to the REACH regulation chemicals produced or imported to the European Union need to be assessed to manage the risk of potential hazard to human health and the environment. An increasing number of chemicals in commerce prompts the need for utilizing faster and cheaper alternative methods for this assessment, such as quantitative structure-activity or property relationships (QSARs or QSPRs). 5. 15. ENVIRONMENTAL CONTAMINANTS AND SPERM Y:X CHROMOSOME RATIO. Impact of androgen- and dioxin-related effects in vivo and in vitro

    Författare :Tarmo Tiido; Malmö Reproduktionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; AR; polymorphisms; Sertoli cell; endocrine disruption; inhibitory cross-talk; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; Biomedical sciences; AHR; sperm Y:X chromosome ratio; sex ratio; POPs; TCDD;

    Sammanfattning : During the last decades, there has been concern that the environmental contaminants, such as POPs, may contribute to sex ratio changes in offspring of exposed populations. Accidental exposure to TCDD has been shown to be associated with fewer sons in men who were exposed in adolescence or earlier in life. LÄS MER
