  1. 21. Cardiovascular risk factors in aortic stenosis

    Författare :Johan Ljungberg; Stefan Söderberg; Bengt Johansson; Peter Nilsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Valvular heart disease; aortic stenosis; bicuspid aortic valve; cardiovascular risk factors; hypertension; diabetes mellitus; smoking; hypercholesterolemia; obesity; shrunken pore; renal failure; Epidemiology; epidemiologi; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Aortic stenosis (AS) is the most common hemodynamic significant valvular heart disease and affects about 2% of the population. The incidence increases with age. When symptoms of the stenotic aortic valve disease eventually occur the 2-year mortality exceeds 50%. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Growth hormones in chronic kidney disease

    Författare :Erik Nilsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Several hormonal systems are disrupted in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and disturbances of the growth hormone axis could contribute to increased morbidity and mortality through effects on cardiovascular health, energy metabolism and inflammation. The overall aim of this thesis was to increase knowledge about hormonal alterations and their consequences in CKD, focusing on cardiovascular disease (CVD), mortality and the growth hormone axis in end-stage renal disease. 3. 23. Fat mass, adipokines and clinical complications of chronic kidney disease

    Författare :Jonas Axelsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Chronic kidney disease; end-stage renal disease; insulin resistance; inflammation; cardiovascular disease; adipokines; leptin; epoetin; resistin; visfatin; AHSG; CD163; outcome.;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), irrespective of initial etiology, have a risk of cardiovascular morbidity (CVD) and mortality that is many-fold higher than that of a similar person without CKD. While traditional risk factors, such as hyperlipidemia, certainly contribute, these factors cannot by themselves explain the burden of CVD. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Prognosis and progression in chronic kidney disease

    Författare :Marie Evans; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Analgesics; Chronic Kidney Disease; Epidemiology; Dialysis; Glomerular Filtration Rate; Lead Metal Exposure; Survival;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a life threatening condition with high risk of pre-term death and need for dialysis. The population prevalence of CKD has been estimated to 10-13% for both Europe and the USA. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Genomic DNA methylation in health and disease

    Författare :Mohsen Karimi Arzenani; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cytosine methylation is one of the important epigenetic mechanisms controlling the vertebrate genome. Changes in genomic DNA methylation have been demonstrated in aging, auto-immune diseases and cancer. LÄS MER
