2. Exploring Probabilistic Reasoning : A Study of How Students Contextualise Compound Chance Encounters in Explorative Settings
Sammanfattning : This thesis aims at exploring how probabilistic reasoning arises in explorative learning situations that are random in nature. The focus is especially on what learners with scant experience of formal theories of probability do and can do when dealing with compound random situations in which they are offered opportunities to integrate different probabilistic lines of reasoning. 3. Consensus formation in the Deffuant model
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with a mathematical model used in the context of social interaction in large groups, introduced by Deffuant et al. in 2000. Each individual holds an opinion and shares it with others in random pairwise encounters. LÄS MER
4. Interacting particle systems for opinion dynamics: the Deffuant model and some generalizations
Sammanfattning : In the field of sociophysics, concepts and techniques taken from statistical physics are used to model and investigate some social and political behavior of a large group of humans: their social network is given by a simple graph and neighboring individuals meet and interact in pairs or small groups. Although most of the established models feature rather simple microscopic interaction rules, the macroscopic long-time behavior of the collective often eludes an analytical treatment due to the complexity, which stems from the interaction of the large system as a whole. 5. Mathematics classroom talk in a migrating world : synthesizing epistemological dimensions
Sammanfattning : This thesis is an expedition into and beyond students’ mathematics talk in classrooms framed by migration as a matter of dichotomization betweennamed languages and (in)formal aspects of one fixed mathematics. It is an attempt to make sense of how students grapple with and move about thedivides that those dichotomizations shapes. LÄS MER
