  1. 1. Adipocyte-derived hormones and cardiovascular disease

    Författare :Maria Eriksson; Stefan Söderberg; Tommy Olsson; Lena Jonasson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :leptin; adiponectin; fibrinolysis; vWF; myocardial infarction; sex differences; physical activity; risk factors;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity is increasing globally and related to major changes in lifestyle. This increase is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Knowledge about adipose tissue as a metabolic-endocrine organ has increased during the last few decades. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Clinical studies in severe heart failure : neurohormonal, electrolyte and metabolic aspects

    Författare :Mats Broqvist; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Congestive heart failure is a common and complex syndrome with a poor prognosis. Although heart disease is usually the primary event, the clinical syndrome is characterised by several extra-cardiac manifestations. Neurohormonal activation seems to play a crucial role for these manifestations and the progression of the disease. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Cardiovascular dysfunction in obstructive sleep apnea

    Författare :Holger Kraiczi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstructive sleep apnea; blood pressure; cardiac size; left ventricular function; endothelium-dependent vasodilation; forearm vascular conductance; natriuretic peptides;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses relationships between the presence or severity of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and blood pressure (BP) as well as other signs of cardiovascular dysfunction.In a cross-sectional investigation of a sleep laboratory cohort of 81 patients, a dose response relationship was observed between the number of apneas plus hypopneas per hour of sleep (apnea-hypopnea index, AHI; measured with polysomnography) and office systolic and diastolic BP (SBP and DBP), daytime ambulatory DBP as well as nighttime ambulatory SBP and DBP (all ambulatory measurements taken at 20-minute intervals). 4. 4. Angiotensin II Receptors in the Human Coronary Circulation and in Heart Failure

    Författare :Emil Pantev; Kardiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; Heart Failure; Human Coronary Arteries; Angiotensin II; AT receptors;

    Sammanfattning : Angiotensin II (Ang II) is a potent vasoconstrictor that is implicated in the pathogenesis of hypertension, heart failure and atherosclerosis. In this thesis, the efficacy and safety of Ang II receptor blockers (ARB) were evaluated. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Endothelium-dependent vasodilation in essential hypertension

    Författare :Jonas Millgård; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; endothelium; hypertension; human; blood pressure; vasodilation; ACE-inhibition; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Internal Medicine; invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : The vascular endothelium plays a crucial role in the regulation of several homeostatic parameters in the circulation. In this thesis, the influences of essential hypertension and antihypertensive agents on endothelium-dependent vasodilation (EDV) were evaluated in the human forearm circulation. LÄS MER
