  1. 1. Embodied simulation as off-line representation

    Författare :Henrik Svensson; Tom Ziemke; Germund Hesslow; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Embodied cognition; Simulation theories; Emulation; Forward models; Perception; Action; Cognitive science; Kognitionsvetenskap; Teknik;

    Sammanfattning : This licentiate thesis argues that a key to understanding the embodiment of cognition is the “sharing” of neural mechanisms between sensorimotor processes and higher-level cognitive processes as described by simulation theories. Simulation theories explain higher-level cognition as (partial) simulations or emulations of sensorimotor processes through the re-activation of neural circuitry also active in bodily perception, action, and emotion. 2. 2. Mental Imagery in the Experience of Literary Narrative : Views from Embodied Cognition

    Författare :Anezka Kuzmicova; Göran Rossholm; Marie-Laure Ryan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; literary narrative; mental imagery; embodiment; embodied cognition; imagination; reading; reader response; sensorimotor simulation; interpretation; aesthetics; narrative theory; Literature; litteraturvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Defined as vicarious sensorimotor experiencing, mental imagery is a powerful source of aesthetic enjoyment in everyday life and, reportedly, one of the commonest things readers remember about literary narratives in the long term. Furthermore, it is positively correlated with other dimensions of reader response, most notably with emotion. LÄS MER

  3. 3. An Embodied Account of Action Prediction

    Författare :Claudia Elsner; Gustaf Gredebäck; Claes von Hofsten; Amanda L. Woodward; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Action prediction; biological motion; direct-matching; embodied simulation; eye movements; eye-tracking; give-me gesture; mirror neuron; motor cortex; point-light; social interaction; TMS; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Being able to generate predictions about what is going to happen next while observing other people’s actions plays a crucial role in our daily lives. Different theoretical explanations for the underlying processes of humans’ action prediction abilities have been suggested. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Embodied Evolution of Learning Ability

    Författare :Stefan Elfwing; Henrik Christensen; Jarmo Alander; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Embodied Evolution; Evolutionary Robotics; Reinforcement Learning; Shaping Rewards; Meta-parameters; Hierarchical Reinforcement Learning; Computer science; Datalogi;

    Sammanfattning : Embodied evolution is a methodology for evolutionary robotics that mimics the distributed, asynchronous, and autonomous properties of biological evolution. The evaluation, selection, and reproduction are carried out by cooperation and competition of the robots, without any need for human intervention. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Validating User Engagement and Effectiveness of Training Simulations : A mixed-methods approach informed by embodied cognition and psychophysiological measures

    Författare :Hiran B. Ekanayake; Robert Ramberg; Tom Ziemke; Per Backlund; Kamalanath Priyantha Hewagamage; Craig Lindley; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; training simulators; simulation validation; psychological fidelity; psychophysiological measures; embodied cognition; electroencephalography EEG ; galvanic skin response GSR ; träningssimulatorer; validering av simuleringar; psykologisk realism; psyko-fysiologiska mått; kroppslig kognition; elektroencefalografi EEG ; galvanisk hudrespons GSR ; Computer and Systems Sciences; data- och systemvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Simulation-based training has gained widespread attention recently as a response to drawbacks associated with traditional training approaches, such as high training costs (instructors, equipment, etc.), high risks (e.g. pilot training), and ethical issues (e. LÄS MER
