16. Sleep disordered breathing and hemodynamic function
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the association between sleep disordered breathing (SDB) and hemodynamic function. A cross sectional study in a sleep laboratory cohort (n=1190) demonstrated a dose-response relationship between the severity of SDB, expressed as respiratory disturbance index (RDI), and office blood pressure, heart rate, and the risk of hypertension. 17. Regulation of vascular function by fluid mechanical forces. Development of a new vascular experimental platform for integrative physiological and molecular biological studies of living conduit vessels
Sammanfattning : The vascular endothelium is a multifunctional interface between blood flow and target organs and is continuously exposed to fluid mechanical forces such as shear stress, compressive, and tensile forces. Both in vivo and in vitro data indicate that biomechanical forces exert important modulating effects on key vascular functions. LÄS MER
18. Experimental studies of the regulations of synthesis and release of tissue-type plasminogen activator from vascular endothelium
Sammanfattning : The fibrinolytic system has several important functions and one crucial function is the prevention and removal of fibrin deposits in blood vessels. Tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA) plays a key role in this process, and in vitro data suggest that an acute release of t-PA is induced as a thromboprotective response whenever clotting mechanisms are initiated. 19. Epidemiological Studies of Preeclampsia : Maternal & Offspring Perspectives
Sammanfattning : Preeclampsia is a placental-related disorder characterized by generalized endothelial activation. Vascular predisposition is associated with the occurrence of preeclampsia and the recurrence risk is substantial. LÄS MER
20. Chronic disease risk factors in a transitional country : the case of rural Indonesia
Sammanfattning : Background: The epidemic of chronic diseases is largely neglected. Although a threatening burden of chronic diseases is emerging, developing public health efforts for their prevention and control is not yet a priority for trans-national and national health policy makers. LÄS MER
