  1. 21. Searching for a charged Higgs boson and development of a hardware track trigger with the ATLAS experiment

    Författare :Joakim Gradin; Elin Bergeås Kuutmann; Johann Collot; Richard Brenner; Susan Shotkin-Gascon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; High energy physics; charged Higgs boson; Particle tracking; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes searches for a heavy charged Higgs boson decaying into a top and bottom quark pair, and the development of a hardware track trigger with theATLAS experiment. The data for the two searches was collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider(LHC) with pp collision energies of √s = 8 and 13 TeV, and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 20. 2. 22. Hunting the Charged Higgs Boson with Lepton Signatures in the ATLAS Experiment

    Författare :Alexander Madsen; Arnaud Ferrari; Johann Collot; Ellert Mattias; Albert de Roeck; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; charged Higgs boson; ATLAS; LHC; 2HDM; MSSM; particle physics; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents searches for a charged Higgs boson (H±) in proton-proton collisions with center-of-mass energies of 7 TeV and 8 TeV, using data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Multiple search channels are used with the common characteristic of at least one charged lepton (electron or muon) that effectively reduces the multi-jet background and is used for efficient triggering. 3. 23. Three Pion Interferometry in the NA44 Experiment

    Författare :Janus Schmidt-Sörensen; Kärnfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantum field theory; heavy-ion physics; bose-einstein; Elementary particle physics; interferometry; Elementarpartikelfysik; kvantfältteori; Fysicumarkivet A:1999:Schmidt-Sörensen;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a three-particle correlation analysis with pions originating from Sulphur-Lead and Lead-Lead collisions at 200 and 158 GeV/c per nucleon respectively, taken by the CERN heavy-ion experiment NA44. The genuine three-body correlation is suppressed in both colliding systems which indicates that the particle production source is partly coherent. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Phenomenology of Diffractive Higgs Production and Large Extra Dimensions

    Författare :Malin Sjödahl; Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ADD; black holes; gravitational scattering; quantum field theory; Elementary particle physics; LHC; cosmic rays; Kosmisk strålning; högenergi; High energy interactions; kvantfältteori; Elementarpartikelfysik; Higgs; large extra dimensions; Diffractive;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on phenomenological predictions for high energy particle collisions from two different theoretical models. The first two papers deal with uncertainties in exclusive reactions of type proton + proton -> proton + proton + Higgs. LÄS MER

  5. 25. The search for a standard model Higgs at the LHC and electron identification using transition radiation in the ATLAS tracker

    Författare :Ulrik Egede; Partikel- och kärnfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantum field theory; Elementary particle physics; tracker; Large Hadron Collider; pion rejection; pattern recognition; Elementarpartikelfysik; kvantfältteori; Fysicumarkivet A:1998:Egede;

    Sammanfattning : The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will be ready for proton-proton collisions in the year 2005 and the ATLAS detector will be one of the two experiments at the LHC which will explore a new and higher energy range for particle physics. In this thesis, an analysis of the power of the ATLAS detector to detect a Standard Model Higgs boson has been performed. LÄS MER
