  1. 1. Mercury immobilization : a requirement for permanent disposal of mercury waste in Sweden

    Författare :Margareta Svensson; Bert Allard; Anders Düker; Björn Öhlander; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; mercury; mercury sulphide; cinnabar; stabilization; solidification; encapsulation; monolith leaching; solubility; mercury speciation; diffusion; apparent diffusion coefficient; Chemistry; Kemi; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The Swedish Government states that mercury in the Swedish industry and private use shall be collected and waste containing more than 1% of mercury shall be conditioned for permanent storage in proposed groundwater-saturated repository in deep bedrock. The owners of mercury waste in Sweden are responsible for finding ways to the conversion of the mercury waste to insoluble forms. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Transport of Mercury Species in the Environment. Exchange between Oceanic Waters and the Atmosphere

    Författare :Maria Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :Mercury; dissolved gaseous mercury; elemental mercury; evasion; flux; Mediterranean Sea; North Atlantic Ocean; Arctic Ocean; accumulation; in-situ measurements; on-line measurements;

    Sammanfattning : Mercury is an element present in the earth crust as well as a component in the atmosphere. During centuries mercury has been released by natural sources, e.g. volcanic eruptions, evasion from water surfaces and degassing from soil. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Mercury cycling in the global marine environment

    Författare :Michelle Nerentorp; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURAL SCIENCES; sea ice; air; seasonal and spatial variation; snow; Mercury cycling; seawater; mercury flux;

    Sammanfattning : Mercury is a globally distributed contaminant that exists in the atmosphere in its elemental form as a stable monoatomic gas. Having a residence time of around one year in air allows it to be transported far from emission sources and end up in polar ecosystems. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Incorporation and preservation of geochemical fingerprints in peat archives

    Författare :Sophia V. Hansson; Richard Bindler; Dominik Weiss; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Peat; Beryllium; bulk density; C N-ratio; decomposition; deposition; downwash; elemental mobility; geochemistry; humification; lead; light transmission; mercury; peat accumulation; precipitation; Environmental Science; miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The present status of the environment, including environmental problems such as heavy metal accumulation in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, is in part the consequence of long-term changes. Cores from peatlands and other natural archives provide us with the potential to study aspects of the atmospheric cycling of elements, such as metal pollutants, on timescales much longer than the decade or two available to us with atmospheric deposition monitoring programs. 5. 5. On the reliability of methods for the speciation of mercury based on chromatographic separation coupled to atomic spectrometric detection

    Författare :Johanna Qvarnström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Mercury; speciation; hyphenated techniques; HPLC; CE; GC; CV-AAS; ICP-MS; species-specific enriched stable isotope; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the reliability of methods for the speciation of mercury in environmental and biological samples. Problems with speciation methods that couple chromatography to atomic spectrometric detection and how to overcome the problems are discussed. LÄS MER
