  1. 1. Measuring Elemental Carbon in Occupational Environments

    Författare :Anna Wallén; Hans-Christen Hansson; Göran Lidén; Karine Elihn; Thomas Kuhlbusch; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Diesel Exhaust Particles; Thermo-Optical Analysis; Black Carbon; Pyrolytic Carbon; Wood Smoke Particles; Water Soluble Organic Compounds; Asphalt Paving Work; Bio Fuels; Subway Aerosol; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Carbonaceous aerosol particles from combustion, such as diesel exhaust particles (DEP), harm human health and affect the Earth’s radiative system.Elemental carbon (EC) has been proposed to be used as a marker of DEP. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Isotope-based source apportionment of black carbon aerosols in the Eurasian Arctic

    Författare :Patrik Winiger; Örjan Gustafsson; Meinrat O. Andreae; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Black Carbon; Radiocarbon; Air Pollution; Arctic Amplification; Climate Change; Arctic Haze; Atmospheric Transport Modeling; Emission Inventory; Carbon Isotopes; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Aerosols change the Earth's energy balance. Black carbon (BC) aerosols are a product of incomplete combustion of fossil fuels and biomass burning and cause a net warming through aerosol radiation interactions (ari) and aerosol cloud interactions (aci). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Transition metal ion-chelating ordered mesoporous carbons as noble metal-free fuel cell catalysts

    Författare :Johanna Dombrovskis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mesoporous materials; electrocatalysis; EXAFS spectroscopy; fuel cell; transition metals; carbon;

    Sammanfattning : Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells offer promising possibilities for clean and efficient chemical to electrical energy conversion, though their high price makes them financially unappealing. This is to a large part due to the high cost of the noble metal catalyst used in fuel cells, which makes development of new, cheap and active catalyst materials necessary. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Carbonaceous Aerosol in Europe - out of the woods and into the blue?

    Författare :Jan Robert Bergström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organic aerosol; elemental carbon; chemical transport modelling; residential wood combustion; biotic stress induced emissions; source apportionment; EMEP MSC-W model;

    Sammanfattning : Particulate matter (PM) in the atmosphere influences weather and climate and may have important health impacts. Regional scale chemical transport modelling aims to describe the composition of particulate matter, to track different sources, estimate their relative importance, and to give realistic predictions of responses to changes in emissions and atmospheric conditions. 5. 5. Air pollution and health – Indicators, trends and impacts

    Författare :Henrik Olstrup; Christer Johansson; Christina Ruden; Bertil Forsberg; Alain Le Tertre; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; air pollution; health; measurements; trends; impacts; mortality; NOx; elemental carbon; AQHI; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on some of the limitations and difficulties that exist when it comes to quantifying the human health effects that arise as a result of air pollution exposure. The following four issues are particularly analysed and discussed: 1) The measurement techniques used for carbonaceous particles and their lack of consistency; 2) Do the health risks associated with exposure to PM10 depend on the content of elemental carbon in the aerosol?; 3) Trends in air pollutants and the health effects that arise as a result of changed exposure to the measured pollutants; 4) The associations between the measured concentrations of different air pollutants in Stockholm and the daily number deaths; 5) Air quality indicators and health outcomes as basis for an air quality health index (AQHI).
