1. Wings, turbulent boundary layers and flow separation
Sammanfattning : The present doctoral thesis investigates the turbulent flow developing around wing sections, focusing on the impact of adverse-pressure-gradient (APG) conditions on turbulent boundary layers (TBLs) and the physics of flow separation. Both experimental and numerical methods are employed to generate high-fidelity data sets and provide an in-depth analysis of the flow. LÄS MER
2. Laser-Based Combustion and Trace-element Analysis
Sammanfattning : Laser spectroscopy has been utilised as a tool for combustion diagnostics and sensitive trace-element analysis. In the field of combustion analysis, a characterisation of a CH4/N2 - O2/N2 counter-flow diffusion flame has been performed using Laser-Induced Fluorescence (LIF). LÄS MER
3. Adaptive Finite Element Methods for Compressible Two-Phase Flow
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we develop, apply and analyse adaptive finite element methods with error control for compressible flow problems, focusing in particular on two-phase flow. The adaptive algorithms, aiming at quantitative error control with efficient use of computational resources, are based on a posteriori error estimates, where the error is estimated in terms of the computed solution, the local mesh-size and certain stability factors. 4. Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry : Exploring the Limits of Different Sample Preparation Strategies
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes two different sample preparation strategies for inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES), and their ability regarding multi element quantification in complex samples. Sensitivity, repeatability, reproducibility and accuracy were investigated. LÄS MER
5. Hybrid and Dynamic Substructuring Methods for Energy Flow Analysis
Sammanfattning : Modeling techniques and solution tools to analyze the dynamic and vibro-acoustic behavior of complex built-up structures are matters of increasing interest, especially for thin walled structures as in transportation vehicles, such as automobiles, trucks, trains and aircraft. In structures like these, the reduction of cost, weight, sound and vibration levels are primary issues for research and development. LÄS MER
