11. From Solution into Vacuum - Structural Transitions in Proteins
Sammanfattning : Information about protein structures is important in many areas of life sciences, including structure-based drug design. Gas phase methods, like electrospray ionization and mass spectrometry are powerful tools for the analysis of molecular interactions and conformational changes which complement existing solution phase methods. 12. Metabolic Studies with Liquid Separation Coupled to Mass Spectrometry
Sammanfattning : Metabolism is the sum of all chemical processes with the purpose to maintain life, as well as enable reproduction, in a living organism. Through the study of metabolism, increased understanding of pharmacological mechanisms and diseases can be achieved. LÄS MER
13. Development and Investigations of Novel Sample Preparation Techniques : Electrochemical Extraction and Evaluation of Miniaturized Analytical Devices Coupled to Mass Spectrometry
Sammanfattning : Different sample preparation steps prior to a detection method are often essential in analytical chemistry. In this thesis, both static extractions and on-line coupled solid-phase extractions have been studied in combination with different detection techniques. LÄS MER
14. Sample preconcentration in open microchannels : Combinations with MALDI and nano-ESI mass spectrometry and computer simulations
Sammanfattning : In this thesis a novel concept for preconcentration of biomolecules in open microchannels is presented. The preconcentration is based on electromigration of charged analytes, and detection is performed with matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) or nano-electrospray ionization (nESI) mass spectrometry (MS). 15. Method and technique development in peptide and protein mass Spectrometry
Sammanfattning : Mechanistic studies and applicability of several methods and techniques for studying peptides and proteins with mass spectrometry are presented. A model for the protein molecular ion formation in explosive matrix-assisted plasma desorption mass spectrometry is proposed, involving a contribution from the chemical energy release during conversion of the explosive, an enhanced protonation through collisions with products from the explosive decay, and electron scavenging by other products.
