1. Charged colloids observed by electrophoretic and diffusion NMR
Sammanfattning : The thesis deals partly with methodology including construction of hardware and new pulse sequences in the field of electrophoretic NMR, and partly with practical use of ENMR and diffusion NMR in the investigation of charged colloidal systems. Several sources of artefacts are investigated, including gas production at the electrodes, electroosmosis and Joule heating effects that can cause convection. LÄS MER
2. Characterizing ions in solution by NMR methods
Sammanfattning : NMR experiments performed under the effect of electric fields, either continuous or pulsed, can provide quantitative parameters related to ion association and ion transport in solution. Electrophoretic NMR (eNMR) is based on a diffusion pulse-sequence with electric fields applied in the form of pulses. LÄS MER
3. Effects and nature on buffer ion enrichment in electric field assisted liquid chromatography
Sammanfattning : The aim of this study has been to investigate the properties and limitations of the separation technique electric field assisted capillary liquid chromatography (EF-LC). The electric current in the EF-LC has shown to be a limiting factor and has been the focus of the study. LÄS MER
4. DNA Electrophoresis in Polymer Solutions. Separation Mechanisms studied by Fluorescence and Linear Dichroism Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : Capillary electrophoresis of DNA in polymer solutions is a promising technique for separation of DNA molecules according to size. The primary aim of the work presented in this thesis was to get a better understanding of the electrophoretic separation mechanism in these media by studying the DNA migration behavior during electrophoresis in both entangled and non-entangled polymer solutions using linear dichroism spectroscopy and fluorescence video microscopy. 5. DNA Electrophoresis: Optical Probing and Microscopic Imaging to Understand Separation Mechanisms
Sammanfattning : The aim of this work was to combine spectroscopic, mobility, and fluorescence microscopy studies to elucidate the mechanisms behind DNA electrophoresis, a method to separate DNA molecules according to size. The microscopy studies require staining of the DNA with a fluorescent dye. LÄS MER
