1. Electron-lattice dynamics in π-conjugated systems
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis concerns the dynamics in π-conjugated hydrocarbon systems. Due to the molecular bonding structure of these systems there exists a coupling between the electronic system and the phonons of the lattice. LÄS MER
2. Aqueous Solutions as seen through an Electron Spectrometer : Surface Structure, Hydration Motifs and Ultrafast Charge Delocalization Dynamics
Sammanfattning : In spite of their high abundance and importance, aqueous systems are enigmatic on the microscopic scale. In order to obtain information about their geometrical and electronic structure, simple aqueous solutions have been studied experimentally by photo- and Auger electron spectroscopy using the novel liquid micro-jet technique in conjunction with synchrotron radiation. 3. Substructure dynamics : In-situ annealing coupled with numerical modelling
Sammanfattning : The understanding of substructural behaviour during post-deformational annealing is key to interpreting rheological adjustments during tectonic change, and the processes which cause them. The focus of this study is to use coupled in-situ experimental techniques with numerical simulation to increase understanding of substructure dynamics in geological materials. LÄS MER
4. Electron Wave Packet Dynamics on the Attosecond Time Scale
Sammanfattning : One objective of attosecond science is to study electron dynamics in atoms and molecular systems on their natural time scale. This can be done using attosecond light pulses. LÄS MER
5. Electron-Lattice Dynamics in pi-Conjugated Systems
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we explore in particular the dynamics of a special type of quasi-particle in pi-conjugated materials termed polaron, the origin of which is intimately related to the strong interactions between the electronic and the vibrational degrees of freedom within these systems. In order to conduct such studies with the particular focus of each appended paper, we simultaneously solve the time-dependent Schrödinger equation and the lattice equation of motion with a three-dimensional extension of the famous Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model Hamiltonian.
