16. Finite Element Procedures for Fluid-structure Interaction
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns finite element (FE) methods for solving fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems. Two types of fluid-structure interaction are considered. A finite element method for solving the interaction between a flowing incompressible fluid and a linear elastic structure is proposed. The flow is assumed to be laminar. LÄS MER
17. Elastic-plastic fracture mechanics - Application to rolling contact fatigue in rails
Sammanfattning : Railway structures represent complex mechanical problems involving wave propagation, plastic deformations and material degradation. The wheel-rail contact loads subject the material to repeated cycles of complex stress states resulting in rolling contact fatigue (RCF). LÄS MER
18. Elastic and acoustic characterisation of porous layered system
Sammanfattning : For an accurate prediction of the low and medium frequency surface vibration and sound radiation behaviour of porous layered systems, there is a need to improve the means of estimating their elastic and acoustic properties. The underlying reasons for this are many and of varying origin, one prominent being a poor knowledge of the geometric anisotropy of the cell microstructure in the manufactured porous materials. 19. Control and optimization of structures with fluid interaction
Sammanfattning : Various problems on the optimal design of elastic structures subject to nonconservative fluid-dynamic forces are considered. The optimal design problem istypically posed as minimizing structural weight subject to constraints on structural stability. LÄS MER
20. Dynamic Train/Track Interaction: Simulation of Railhead Corrugation Growth under a Moving Bogie Using Mathematical Models Combined with Full-Scale Measurements
Sammanfattning : Heavier trains and higher speeds have increased the need for high-quality tracks and vehicles in order to fulfill safety and environmental requests. The phenomena involved in dynamic train/track interaction lead to noise radiation, induce ground-borne vibrations and degrade the track structure and the railcar wheels. LÄS MER
