  1. 16. Regulation of internalization and replication of intracellular bacterial pathogens

    Författare :Eugénie Bassères; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The capacity of intracellular bacteria to cause disease depends on their ability to invade and replicate within eukaryotic host cells. These characteristics also allow preferential invasion and replication by facultative anaerobic bacteria in solid tumours, which can be exploited to design delivery vectors for cancer therapy. 2. 17. Molecular dissection of Bruton’s tyrosine kinase signaling in hematopoietic cells using RNAi

    Författare :Juhana E Heinonen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : RNA mediated gene silencing, RNA interference (RNAi), has recently been identified in mammalians. This thesis describes the utilization and development of RNAi based tools for signal transduction research. The effects of Bruton s tyrosine kinase (Btk) down-regulation with RNAi have been studied with gene expression profiling in hematopoietic cells. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Perturbation of the epithelial barrier by enteric pathogens

    Författare :Farideh Tafazoli; Magnusson Karl-Eric; Hakon Leffler; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :enteric pathogens: signal transduction; barrier function; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Gastrointestinal infections in humans have been associated with a number of diseased condition, including stomach ulcers, gastroenteritis, Crohn's disease, and rheumatic arthritis. Such infections often cause altered intestinal permeability through perturbation of the tight junctions that hold epithelial cells together. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Novel treatment strategies and regulation of IgE-mediated allergic disease

    Författare :Sarah Thunberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Allergic symptoms such as rhinoconjunctivitis, asthma or gastrointestinal symptoms, triggered by inhaled or ingested allergens cross-linking allergen-specific IgE on mast cells or basophils, are defined as IgE-mediated allergy. The major allergens from birch pollen (Bet v 1) and cat dander (Fel d 1) are two common allergens eliciting allergic disease. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Alphavirus replicon-based strategies for vaccination

    Författare :Maria Lisa Knudsen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Vaccination has been extremely successful for the control of many infectious diseases. However, efficient vaccines are still not available against diseases such as HIV, hepatitis C, malaria and tuberculosis. For these diseases, the traditional vaccine approaches are not feasible, and thus new vaccine technologies are needed. LÄS MER
