  1. 11. Dynamic modelling of the forest ecosystem: Incorporation of the phosphorus cycle

    Författare :Lin Yu; BECC: Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dynamic modeling; forest ecosystem; phosphorus cycle;

    Sammanfattning : The forest ecosystem provides and regulates many important ecosystem services, such as soil and water protection, timber production, and climate regulation. It has been influenced by changes induced by humans, for example, our increasing demand for timber and bioenergy, the increase in nitrogen (N) deposition and CO2 concentrations due to industrialization, and climate change which has caused an increase in global temperature and extreme events such as storms. 2. 12. Function follows Form : Trait-based approaches to climate change effects on wetland vegetation and functioning

    Författare :Helen Moor; Jon Norberg; Andrew Gonzalez; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Functional traits; Plant community ecology; Trait distributions; Wetlands; Ecosystem functioning; Ecosystem Services; Climate change; Dispersal; Metacommunity modelling; naturresurshushållning; Natural Resources Management;

    Sammanfattning : Climate change and habitat fragmentation are altering the structure and functioning of plant communities world-wide. Understanding how, why and with what consequences are major challenges of ecology today. Trait-based approaches focus on functional rather than taxonomic identity to facilitate process-based explanation and prediction. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Element transport in marine coastal ecosystems – modelling general and element-specific mechanisms

    Författare :Lena Konovalenko; Clare Bradshaw; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Modelling; bioaccumulation; concentration ratio; radionuclides; marine foodweb.; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Understanding the behaviour of naturally-occurring and anthropogenically-derived radionuclides (isotopes) in the marine environment is important, because there is a need for their effective utilization either as in situ tracers or for industry, medical applications, the planning of waste-disposal facilities, and estimations of human and animal health risks. Radionuclides generally have the same chemical properties as their stable element analogues and thus show similar environmental behaviour and cycling to their stable counterparts. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Agents, auctions and interactions: Modelling markets for ecosystem services and renewable energy

    Författare :Liv Lundberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Market interactions; Cobweb model; Auctions for renewable energy; Environmental Policy; Renewable Energy; Payment for Ecosystem Services; Land-use competition; Bioenergy; Auctions; Agent-based modelling;

    Sammanfattning : If we are to mitigate climate change and tackle other pressing environmental issues such as biodiversity loss, environmental policies will be crucial. The papers in this thesis all focus on how individual behaviour and lack of information affects the outcome of environmental policy, using agent-based models where individual actors and their behaviour are explicitly modelled. 5. 15. Modelling nutrient transport from forest ecosystems to surface waters : The model ForSAFE-2D

    Författare :Giuliana Zanchi; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; forest; dynamic modelling; hydrology; biogeochemistry; ecosystem service;

    Sammanfattning : Forests provide multiple products and services which are all are linked to water resources. Trees need water to grow and, at the same time, they change the quality and the quantity of runoff by modifying water and nutrient cycling. LÄS MER
