  1. 6. Sound perception and design in multimodal environments

    Författare :PerMagnus Lindborg; Anders K. Friberg; Daniel Västfjäll; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; sound; perception; design; multimodal; environment; soundscape; music; listening; crossmodal; psychoacoustics; psychophysiology; personality trait; emotion; appraisal; aesthetics; colour; correlation; regression; classification; sonification; Tal- och musikkommunikation; Speech and Music Communication;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation is about sound in context. Since sensory processing is inherently multimodal, research in sound is necessarily multidisciplinary. The present work has been guided by principles of systematicity, ecological validity, complementarity of  methods, and integration of science and art. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Reversible architecture : Reuse of timber building parts in circular design

    Författare :Margherita Lisco; Avdelningen för Byggproduktion; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; reuse; circular design; building parts; design for disassembly; design for adaptability; timber;

    Sammanfattning : The construction industry has a great impact on the environment but there is a great potential for improvements. In the era of climate change, sustainable construction methods and ecological solutions are required to improve energyefficiency, and to decrease the environmental impact of housing development. 3. 8. People, Climate, and Inclusive Infrastructure : A thesis on design and planning in underserved neighbourhoods

    Författare :Joseph Mulligan; Mattias Höjer; David Nilsson; Edgar Pieterse; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Socio-ecological systems; climate change; infrastructure design and planning; participation; adaptation; co-design; resilience; urban transition; flood risk management; transdisciplinary research; Kibera; Nairobi; Kenya; sub-Saharan Africa.; Strategier för hållbar utveckling; Strategies for sustainable development;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with the processes of design and planning of infrastructure in rapidly urbanising cities that can lead to a more just and sustainable trajectory of urban development in the context of a changing climate. The thesis draws on case studies, panel surveys, interviews, and participant-observation of both top-down and bottom-up planning processes for infrastructure development and flood risk management in the context of urban informal areas, with a particular focus on the large informal neighbourhood of Kibera in central Nairobi, Kenya. 4. 9. Devising Capabilities : Service Design for Development Interventions

    Författare :Fiona Lambe; Stefan Holmlid; Matthew Osborne; Alison Prendiville; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Service design; Capabilities approach; Development interventions; Global South; Complexity;

    Sammanfattning : Despite the progress in recent decades, one in ten people globally still live in extreme poverty, and this number is set to increase in the coming years. Designing interventions to improve well-being and livelihoods is challenging because poverty is multidimensional and plays out in complex, adaptive social-ecological systems, where behaviours and practices at the local level can have unintended consequences elsewhere in the system. 5. 10. Usefulness in Representation Design

    Författare :Martin Howard; Peter Wright; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation outlines a perspective in Human Factors in which artifacts play a central, but subordinate role. It lies at the intersection of (a) influences from information systems development, (b) an ecological approach to cognition, (c) practical problems faced by human factors design in complex systems, and (d) methodological inspirations from industrial design and ethnography.
