  1. 1. The Cognitive Basis of Joint Probability Judgments : Processes, Ecology, and Adaption

    Författare :Joakim Sundh; Peter Juslin; Jörg Rieskamp; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; Judgment and decision-making; Joint probability judgment; Probability theory; Ecological rationality; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : When navigating an uncertain world, it is often necessary to judge the probability of a conjunction of events, that is, their joint probability. The subject of this thesis is how people infer joint probabilities from probabilities of individual events. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Nutrient use strategies of plants of various life-forms in a subarctic environment : Nutrient conservation as an adaption to infertile habitats

    Författare :Rolf Lutz Eckstein; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Mean residence time; Nutrient productivity; Nutrient use efficiency; Plant strategies; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Sammanfattning : Plant performance in relation to limiting nutrients was analysed using the concept of nutrient use efficiency (NUE). NUE can be decomposed into (1) the nutrient productivity (aNP) and (2) the mean residence time (MRT). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Fjällfolk : livsformer och kulturprocesser i Tärna socken under 1800- och 1900-talen

    Författare :Per Moritz; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Life stories; mountain dwellers; forms of exploitation of resources; socialized knowledge; ecological adaption; values; stor-telling traditions; history of civilization; innovations; processes of cultural change;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this study is to investigate life forms and the dynamics of cultural processes in the parish of Tärna, Västerbotten. The material is an investigation of the life stories of two families, which have been investigated from an overall scientific aspect. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Genetic Variation and Evolution of Floral Display in Primula farinosa

    Författare :Camille Madec; Jon Ågren; Johan Ehrlén; Richard Ennos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; natural selection; flowering time; population differentiation; local adaptation; male reproductive success;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I combine molecular analyses, common-garden and field experiments to examine how evolutionary and ecological processes influence patterns of genetic variation among and within populations of the declining, insect-pollinated, self-incompatible, perennial herb Primula farinosa. More specifically I examined 1) whether genetic diversity at neutral marker loci was related to habitat fragmentation and habitat stability, 2) whether floral display and flowering time were more strongly differentiated among populations than were putatively neutral marker loci, 3) whether adaptive population differentiation could be detected on a local spatial scale, and 4) whether floral display differentially affected male and female reproductive success. 5. 5. Local adaptation in life history traits and population size estimation of aquatic organisms

    Författare :Konrad Karlsson; Monika Winder; Johan Ehrlén; Juha Merilä; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; local adaptation; intraspecific variation; niche partitioning; life history; global warming; recreational angling; spatial capture–recapture; marin ekologi; Marine Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Human society is dependent on healthy aquatic ecosystems for our basic needs and well-being. Therefore, knowledge about how organisms respond and interact with their environments is pivotal. LÄS MER
