2. District heating in future Europe : Modelling expansion potentials and mapping heat synergy regions
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a set of methodologies and approaches to investigate and determine the extent by which district heating can contribute to improved energy system efficiency and reduced carbon dioxide emissions in future Europe. The main motivation for suggesting large-scale implementation of district heating as a structural energy efficiency measure to obtain these objectives originates essentially in the predicament that a majority of European buildings today remain highly dependent on fossil fuels to provide energy needed for space heating and hot water preparation. 3. Thermal Conductivity of Materials under Conditions of Planetary Interiors
Sammanfattning : The presented thesis focuses on study of transport and thermoelastic properties of materials under conditions of planetary interiors by means of high-pressure experimental tools and finite element modeling, and their role in the dynamics and states of cores of terrestrial planets. Experiments in laser-heated diamond anvil cell (LHDAC) in combination with numerical simulations of heat transfer in DAC are shown to yield information on thermal conductivity of a pressurized sample. 4. Land and climate effects of bioenergy - Brazilian sugarcane ethanol and combined biofuel-district heating in Europe
Sammanfattning : According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, use of fossil fuels is the largest source ofthe increase in atmospheric CO2. The second largest is land use change. To reach stringent climate targets, emissions from fossil fuel combustion and land use change will need to be reduced to near zerowithin a few decades. LÄS MER
