  1. 1. The Regulation of Global SOx Emissions from Ships: IMO proceedings 1988-2008

    Författare :Erik Svensson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; IMO; SOx; global cap; Annex VI; MARPOL; air pollution; ships; sulphur oxides; policy-making; emissions;

    Sammanfattning : MARPOL Annex VI regulates air pollution from international shipping. Emissions of sulphur oxides (SOx) are regulated through a global limit for the sulphur content of bunker fuels (referred to as a global cap) as well as a stricter limit in particularly sensitive areas, referred to as SOx Emission Control Areas (SECAs). 2. 2. Composites for commercial ships

    Författare :Måns Håkansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; design; ship; composites; commercial vessels; optimization; weight reduction; cost-efficient design;

    Sammanfattning : Composite materials have been used in marine applications for more than 50 years, and benefits such as low weight, low maintenance requirements and freedom of design are well known. A wider use of composites in larger, commercial vessels has been limited by initial costs and fire regulations, but both of these obstacles are diminishing. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Urbanism Under Sail : An Archaeology of Fluit Ships in Early Modern Everyday Life

    Författare :Niklas Eriksson; Johan Rönnby; Anders Andrén; Jonas Nordin; Södertörns högskola; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Seventeenth century; Urbanism; Shipwrecks; Historical; Historical Studies; Historiska studier; Östersjö- och Östeuropaforskning; Baltic and East European studies;

    Sammanfattning : In the seventeenth- and early eighteenth centuries, fluits were the most common type of merchant ship used in Baltic trade. Originally a Dutch design, the majority of all goods transported between Sweden and the Republic was carried on board such vessels. Far from all voyages reached their destination. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Ship and Society : Maritime Ideology in Late Iron Age Sweden

    Författare :Gunilla Larsson; Ola Kyhlberg; Mats G. Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : This thesis analyses the relation between ship and society against a background of ideological and technological changes in Late Iron Age Sweden. It discusses the factors behind the development of ‘a maritime society’, why ships and seafaring came to play an important role that was also reflected in the use of the ship as a symbol and a metaphor in a military context, as well as in religion, administration, jurisdiction and social life. 5. 5. A Generic Model for Simulation of the Energy Performance of Ships - from Early Design to Operational Conditions

    Författare :Fabian Tillig; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; uncertainty analysis; ship design; ship operation; energy systems modelling; ship energy efficiency; fuel consumption;

    Sammanfattning : Forecasts show a doubling of the world’s transportation needs until 2050. Shipping today accounts for 90% of all freight transport. Simultaneously, shipping must become cleaner and more energy-efficient to meet the target to more than halve 2005 greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. LÄS MER
