  1. 1. Estimating children’s exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances

    Författare :Kerstin Winkens; Ian T. Cousins; Urs Berger; Robin Vestergren; Heather M. Stapleton; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PFAS; PFAA; fluorinated; fluorotelomer; FTOH; PAP; early life; child; human; exposure; intake; indoor; bedroom; air; dust; serum; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are highly stable, surface active chemicals, which are water- and oil/stain-repellent. Because of their unique properties, PFASs are widely used in consumer products. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Early life experiences and alcohol use in youth : An emerging role of the Vesicular Glutamate Transporters

    Författare :Maria Vrettou; Erika Comasco; Ingrid Nylander; Kent W. Nilsson; Åsa Wallén-Mackenzie; Roberto Ciccocioppo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :alcohol; early-life stress; brain; early adulthood; expression; DNA methylation; glutamate; Vesicular Glutamate Transporters;

    Sammanfattning : Initiation of alcohol consumption usually takes place during adolescence, a period characterized by a plethora of physical and emotional changes. Towards early adulthood, hazardous drinking patterns can emerge and potentially lead to the development of Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Adolescent behavior : Links to early-life stress and alcohol in male and female rats

    Författare :Stina Lundberg; Erika Roman; Ingrid Nylander; Heidi MB Lesscher; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adolescence; alcohol exposure; behavior; corticosterone; dynorphin; early life; endogenous opioid peptides; Met-enkephalin-Arg6Phe7 MEAP ; individual differences; multivariate concentric square field MCSF ; phenotyping; radioimmunoassay; selective breeding for alcohol consumption; voluntary alcohol intake; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Adolescence is an important developmental phase with large changes in behavior, physiology and neurobiology, which transform an individual from immature child to independent adult. Due to these changes, adolescence is a sensitive period for exposure to environmental factors such as stress and drug exposure; it is also a common age of onset for alcohol consumption as well as several psychiatric disorders. 4. 4. Scarred for Life. How conditions in early life affect socioeconomic status, reproduction and mortality in Southern Sweden, 1813-1968

    Författare :Luciana Quaranta; Centrum för ekonomisk demografi; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Early life; selection and scarring; diet and disease; life course; historical demography; southern Sweden; 19th and 20th century;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this doctoral thesis is to contribute to the debate on the importance of diet and disease in explaining the mortality decline and the general literature of the long-term effects of early life conditions. Using individual-level data from Southern Sweden for 1813 to 1968, this work measures the impacts of grain prices during the foetal stage and infant mortality rates during the year of birth on mortality over the full life course, as well as on female socioeconomic status attainment and reproductive health. 5. 5. Fishy behavior : persistent effects of early-life exposure to 17α-ethinylestradiol

    Författare :Kristina Volkova; Inger Porsch Hällström; Svante Winberg; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Endocrine disruptors; anxiety; stress behavior; transgenerational effects; 17α-ethinylestradiol; developmental exposure; social behavior; fish; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : The synthetic estrogen 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2) is an endocrine disrupting chemical (EDC) of concern due to its persistent nature and widespread presence in the aquatic environment. In mammals, effects of developmental EDC exposure on reproduction and behavior not only persist to adulthood after discontinued exposure, but are also inherited by several consecutive unexposed generations.
