16. Norberg och Järnet : Bergsmännen och den medeltida industrialiseringen
Sammanfattning : This thesis is an archeological study of continuity and change in mining and settlement 1000 – 1500. At the time for the earliest possible introduction of mining, in the mid-10th century, the primary area for Norbergs’ mining district was sparsely settled, but in the late Viking Age and/or early Middle Ages, the analyses demonstrate a significant agricultural expansion. 17. Klädd Krigare : Skifte i skandinaviskt dräktskick kring år 1000
Sammanfattning : Using textiles as clues, it is shown that, like in the rest of Scandinavia, there is a legible societal shift in favour of a new Christian organization as early as around year 1000 even in the central parts of what is now Sweden, including the, according to Adam of Bremen, “pagan” Mälar valley. During a period of at least a hundred and fifty years, the Mälar valley with Birka in the centre had enjoyed eastern trade, which is reflected in the rich finds of oriental textile fragments in the Birka graves. Sammanfattning : This dissertation focuses especially on the late Viking period and the early Middle Ages. Special emphasis is laid on the town of Sigtuna and the three provinces of Tiundaland, Attundaland and Fjädrundaland (the territory now known as Uppland). Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the use of various osseous raw materials in craft activities in the Mälaren region during the Middle Ages. Places studied are: Birka, Sigtuna, Nyköping, Strängnäs and Uppsala. The aim is to capture both chronological and spatial changes in the use of osseous raw materials. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : Silver and gold deposits from the Viking Age give the contemporaneous societies in the Nordic countries, in particular Sweden, a shining and impressive exterior. Why was this gold and silver unclaimed? What kind of cultural traditions surrounded the deposits of silver and gold from the Viking Age and Early Middle Ages? To reach an understanding of this the author analyses two different aspects, namely, the conceptions that can have been associated with deposits of silver and gold, and the reconstructed milieus where the precious metal was deposited in the provinces of Uppland and Gästrikland in middle Sweden.
