    Sammanfattning : This mainly deductive study examines what factors explain the variation of e-democracy and if, why a causal pathway exists. The deductive feature is carried out through examining the predictions of the modernization theory, testing hypotheses concerning the link between economic development and wealth in relation to e-democracy.     Sammanfattning : The theoretical findings of the thesis is composed of three parts, it consists of (i) a framework for social entrepreneurship, (ii) some pitfalls and success factors and (iii) a perspicuous design guide. These findings was a result of field research during a long time – more than 5 years, 2000-2005 – and the scientific purpose was to give a broad description and understanding of the research problem, which was: How should (i) social, (ii) pedagogical and (iii) technical components be arranged and aligned in a process to develop, uphold or vitalize a social and learning context by help of ICT-supported dialogue and discussion – e-democracy and e-participation – between ordinary participants/members and their representatives? The thesis describes a dialogue and discussion-based social entrepreneurship for the development and use of a similar like socio-technical ICT-artifact. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : How can political participatory processes online be understood in the dynamic, conflicted and highly mediated situations of contemporary society? What does democracy mean in a scenario where inequality and difference are the norms, and where people tend to abandon situations in which they and their interests are not recognized? How can we accommodate differences rather than consensus in a scenario where multiple networks of people are the starting point rather than a single community?In this thesis, these questions are explored through an iterative process in two studies that have used or resulted in three prototypes and one art exhibition. The first study is of communication practices in a global interest community, which resulted in two prototypes: Actory, a groupware that takes differences rather than equality as the starting point for a collaborative tool, and The Affect Machine, a social network where differences are used as a relational capital.
