6. Defect Induced Room-Temperature Ferromagnetism in ZnO and MgO Thin FIlms and Device Development
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the discovery of defect induced room-temperature ferromagnetism in industrially important ZnO and MgO thin films, and establishes from a systematic study, in both ZnO and MgO films, the unique phenomenon of the sequences of transitions from ferromagnetism to para-, and eventually the well known diamagnetism of the bulk as a function of film thickness. Highly oriented and high quality dense thin films of ZnO and MgO have been deposited by reactive (balanced) magnetron sputtering under different ambience conditions and deposition temperatures. 7. The influence of microstructure on the crack initiation and propagation in Al-Si casting alloys
Sammanfattning : For reducing the CO2 footprint in many industrial fields, the goal is to produce lighter components. The aluminium-silicon (Al-Si) cast alloys are promising candidates to fulfill these goals with a high weight-to-strength ratio, good corrosion properties, excellent castability, and recyclable material. 8. The effect of microstructural features, defects and surface quality on the fatigue performance in Al-Si-Mg Cast alloys
Sammanfattning : Global warming is driving industry to manufacture lighter components to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Promising candidates for achieving this are aluminium-silicon (Al-Si) cast alloys, which offer a high weight-to-strength ratio, excellent corrosion resistance, and good castability. LÄS MER
9. Non-equilibrium Surfaces of Metallic Thin Films
Sammanfattning : Growth and structural characterization of metallic multilayers have been performed on the Mo/W, Mo/V and Ag/Ni systems utilizing magnetron sputtering under ultra-high-vacuum deposition conditions. Structural characterization has been performed both in situ and ex situ with several electron beam probing techniques as well as x-ray diffraction. LÄS MER
10. Ultrasound Communication through Thin Plates: Understanding the Channel
Sammanfattning : Ultrasound, composed of sound waves with frequencies above the human audible range, has become widely used in various technological fields for digital communications. In the past, acoustic and ultrasonic waves were employed in military and commercial un-derwater wireless communication systems due to their superior performance compared to electromagnetic waves.
