  1. 21. Neuropeptide expression in mouse disease models

    Författare :Margarita Diez; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Alzheimers disease; autoradiographic ligand binding; CCK; degeneration; dynorphin; enkephalin; galanin; immunohistochemistry; in situ hybridization; lesion; magnetic resonance imaging; megencephaly; NPY; prion infection; substance P.;

    Sammanfattning : The role of neuropeptides and the significance of peptidergic mechanisms in neurodegenerative diseases are still relatively unexplored. In the periphery, nerve injury results in dramatic changes in the expression of neuropeptides (and other molecules). LÄS MER

  2. 22. Levodopa- and Neuroleptic-Induced Dyskinesias : Studies on Pharmacological Modification and Processing of Opioid Neuropeptides

    Författare :Rebecka Klintenberg; Alan Crossman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biological research on drug dependence; Opioid peptides; dyskinesia; Parkinson s disease; mass spectrometry; metabolism; Biologisk beroendeforskning; Biological research on drug dependence; Biologisk beroendeforskning; biologisk beroendeforskning; Biological Research on Drug Dependence;

    Sammanfattning : Dyskinesias or abnormal involuntary movements are a debilitating complication of long-term levodopa treatment of Parkinson’s disease (PD) that is widely experienced and may compromise the efficacy of the drug therapy. Tardive dyskinesia is another important adverse effect seen with antipsychotic drug treatment. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Opioid and non-opioid activities of the dynorphins

    Författare :Zoya Marinova; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Endogenous opioid peptides a-neoendorphin, dynorphin A (Dyn A), dynorphin B (Dyn B) and big dynorphin (Big Dyn) consisting of Dyn A and Dyn B, collectively known as dynorphins are derived from the precursor protein prodynorphin (PDYN). Dynorphins regulate pain processing and memory acquisition and modulate reward induced by intake of addictive substances. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Molecular Adaptations in the Endogenous Opioid System in Human and Rodent Brain

    Författare :Muhammad Zubair Hussain; Georgy Bakalkin; Anita Hansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endogenous Opioid System; Dynorphins; Lateralization; Alcohol Dependence; Emotions; Traumatic Brain Injury; Anterior Cingulate Cortex; Dorsal Striatum; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of the thesis were to examine i) whether the endogenous opioid system (EOS) is lateralized in human brain areas involved in processing of emotions and pain; ii) whether EOS responses to unilateral brain injury depend on side of lesion, and iii) whether in human alcoholics, this system is involved in molecular adaptations in brain areas relevant for cognitive control of addictive behavior and habit formation.The main findings were that (1) opioid peptides but not opioid receptors and classic neurotransmitters are markedly lateralized in the anterior cingulate cortex involved in processing of  positive and negative emotions and affective component of pain. 5. 25. Early Environment and Adolescent Ethanol Consumption : Effects on Endogenous Opioids and Behaviour in Rats

    Författare :Loudin Daoura; Ingrid Nylander; Erika Roman; Bo Söderpalm; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alcohol; intermittent ethanol access; maternal separation; multivariate concentric square field™ test; maternal behavior; ultrasonic vocalization; adolescent; neonatal handling; Farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmaceutical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Excessive and compulsive ethanol drinking is one of the most serious public health issues. Therefore, it is vital to increase the knowledge about risks and protection for alcohol use disorders (AUD) to optimize prevention and treatment strategies. LÄS MER
