1. MRI Perfusion Measurements using Magnetic Susceptibility Effects: : Calibration Approaches and Contrast Agent Quantification
Sammanfattning : Exchange of oxygen and nutrients between blood and tissue occurs at the capillary level of the blood system. The blood volume flow rate in the capillaries is often referred to as perfusion, and knowledge about perfusion provides important information about the function and viability of the tissue, for example, in patients with ischaemic stroke, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases. 2. Optimisation and Validation of Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast MRI Perfusion Measurements
Sammanfattning : The studies presented in this thesis concern the optimisation and evaluation of the dynamic susceptibility contrast magnetic resonance imaging (DSC-MRI) technique for the assessment of perfusion-related parameters of the brain, such as cerebral blood flow (CBF), cerebral blood volume (CBV) and mean transit time (MTT). Several methodological factors influence these measurements, for example, contrast-agent administration, arterial input function (AIF) registration, choice of deconvolution algorithm and the choice of pulse-sequence parameters. 3. Preoperative MRI and PET in suspected low-grade gliomas : Radiological, neuropathological and clinical intersections
Sammanfattning : Background: Gliomas are neuroepithelial tumours classified by cell type and grade. In adults, low-grade gliomas are comprised mainly of astrocytomas and oligodendrogliomas grade II. LÄS MER
4. On potentials and limitations of perfusion MRI in neurological disorders
Sammanfattning : Cerebral perfusion outlines several parameters which describe the status of cerebral haemodynamics. Numerous neurological diseases affect cerebral perfusion, thus the importance of diagnostic measurements. LÄS MER
5. Cerebral CT - and MRI perfusion: Techniques and clinical application in iNPH
Sammanfattning : Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) is a disorder of the elderly, defined by slowly progressive impairment of gait and balance, cognitive decline, and incontinence. Disturbance of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) dynamics results in ventriculomegaly without intracranial pressure increase. LÄS MER
