1. Soil identification by vibration measurements during soil-rock sounding
Sammanfattning : Dynamic penetration tests are frequently used as geotechnical site investigation methods. In Sweden, the main reason to choose a dynamic penetration method is to investigatedepth to bedrock, strength and deformation properties of soil, compaction, or pilingdepth. LÄS MER
2. Methods for mechanical testing based on analysis of elastic waves in rods
Sammanfattning : This thesis summarizes six papers on development and applications of a method to evaluate the normal force and particle velocity at any cross-section of a nonuniform rod from measurements of strain at two different cross-sections. In Paper A the method is developed. It is an extension of that developed by Lundberg and Henchoz for uniform rods. LÄS MER
3. Influence of waxes on bitumen and asphalt concrete mixture performance
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis consists of a literature review, presented in two papers, and another six papers describing experimental studies of the influence of different kinds of wax and polyphosporic acid on bitumen and asphalt concrete mixture properties. The literature review should give an extensive description of the field of knowledge concerning wax in bitumen. LÄS MER
4. Quantitative controls on the routing of supraglacial meltwater to the bed of glaciers and ice sheets
Sammanfattning : The influence of seasonal influx of supraglacial meltwater on basal water pressures and consequent changes in ice surface velocity has been a focus of research spanning over three decades, particularly focussing on alpine glaciers. Now, with increased recognition for a need to better include glacial hydrology within models of ice dynamics and ice sheet evolution, the ability to predict where and when meltwater is delivered to the subglacial system is paramount, both for understanding the dynamics of alpine glaciers, and of large Arctic ice masses. 5. Investigations on moisture damage-related behaviour of bituminous materials
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis presents results of literature review on classical and contemporary aspects of stripping, as well as experimental investigations on moisture damage as influenced by bituminous materials. Previous research in the area of moisture damage was reviewed and synthesized into a state-of-the-art. LÄS MER
