11. Surface Characterization using Radiometric and Fourier Optical Methods
Sammanfattning : This thesis treats static and dynamic surface characterization using radiometric and Fourier optical methods. A Fourier optical method has been developed for real time image processing in paper production and printing applications. LÄS MER
12. Nonionic Microemulsions: Dependence on Oil Chain Length of the Surfactant Curvature Elastic Properties
Sammanfattning : The aim with this thesis has been to increase the knowledge about nonionic microemulsions and how they behave with increasing temperature. I have studied Nonionic Microemulsions made from C12E5, water and oil, with predominally hexadecane as oil, but also with octane, decane, dodecane and tetradecane as oil. LÄS MER
13. Association Phenomena Involving Hydrophobically Modified Polymers. Electrostatic and Hydrophobic Contributions
Sammanfattning : The electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions in aqueous solutions of hydrophobically-modified water-soluble non-ionic or ionic polymers, their mixtures with a second polymer, nonionic or of opposite charge, and their mixtures with surfactants of opposite charge have been investigated. The relative strength of the electrostatic and hydrophobic contributions has been modulated by a variation of the polymer charge density and the solution pH, and by a variation in the degree and strength of the hydrophobic modifications, respectively. 14. The Interaction between Triblock Copolymers and Surfactants in Dilute Aqueous Solution
Sammanfattning : The solution properties of dilute aqueous solutions of poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO-PPO-PEO) triblock copolymers and their interaction with surfactants have been investigated using static and dynamic light scattering, combined with small angle X-ray scattering, calorimetry and nuclear magnetic resonance techniques. In aqueous solution, the triblock copolymers P123 and F127 (EO20PO68EO20 and EO97PO68EO97, respectively) form micelles with a PPO core and a PEO corona. LÄS MER
15. Controlling DNA compaction and the interaction with model biomembranes
Sammanfattning : The studies described in this thesis forms part of a larger collaborative project, Neonuclei, with the objective to design a module for packaging the negatively charged DNA into a ”neonucleus” with transcription competence. There are many applications that require control of DNA compaction, i.e. packaging or condensation. LÄS MER
