11. Carcinoma of the urinary bladder. Long-term prognosis and results of intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guérin treatment
Sammanfattning : Aims: To study prognostic factors in bladder cancer in relation to BCG immunotherapy and to evaluate a new method of reducing the side-effects of such treatment.Patients and methods: We identified 121 patients with stage T1 tumours diagnosed with bladder cancer between 1987 and 1988. 12. Growth and characterisation of InGaAs-based quantum dots-in-a-well infrared photodetectors
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents results from the development of quantum dot (QD) based infrared photodetectors (IPs). The studies include epitaxial growth of QDs, investigations of the structural, optical and electronic properties of QD-based material as well as characterisation of the resulting components. LÄS MER
13. Studies of Vacuum Dewatering on Low Grammage Paper Webs
Sammanfattning : A laboratory scale apparatus to simulate high-vacuum dewatering of low grammage paper sheets, typically for tissue products has been constructed. Vacuum level, vacuum pulse dwell time and frequency of single vacuum pulses are in the range typical for a Through Air Drying (TAD) tissue machine. The vacuum pulse dwell time was varied from 0. 14. Icodextrin metabolism in peritoneal dialysis : clinical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : Icodextrin is a glucose polymer which is used as osmotic agent to provide sustained ultrafiltration (UF) during the long (8-16 hours) dwell in end-stage renal disease patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD). The aims of this thesis were to study: the metabolism of icodextrin in the peritoneal cavity and in the circulation of PD patients and non-uremic rats, the role of alpha-amylase in its hydrolysis, and the rate of breakdown of a synthetic maltoheptaose (G7) ex vivo which we propose as a novel measure of amylase mediated oligosaccharide metabolism. 15. Oxidation, Creep and Fatigue Synergies in Cast Materials for Exhaust Manifolds
Sammanfattning : The future development of engines of heavy-duty vehicles towards reduced CO2 emission will increase the exhaust gas temperature and render the exhaust atmosphere more corrosive. The current service material of exhaust gas components - a ferritic ductile cast iron called SiMo51 - will soon meet its upper-temperature limit. LÄS MER
