1. Dark matter signal normalisation for dwarf spheroidal galaxies : A frequentist analysis of stellar kinematics for indirect Dark Matter searches
Sammanfattning : Indirect detection strategies of Dark Matter (DM) entail searching for signals of DM annihilation or decay, typically in the form of excess positrons or high-energy photons above the astrophysical background, originating from (inferred) DM-rich environments. Due to their characteristics, dwarf spheroidal satellite galaxies (dSphs) of the Milky Way are considered very promising targets for indirect particle DM identification. LÄS MER
2. Dark Matter searches targeting Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxies with the Fermi Large Area Telescope
Sammanfattning : In this thesis I present our recent work on gamma-ray searches for dark matter with the Fermi Large Area Telescope (Fermi-LAT). We have targeted dwarf spheroidal galaxies since they are very dark matter dominated systems, and we have developed a novel joint likelihood method to combine the observations of a set of targets. 3. Photometry of Resolved Stellar Populations in Local Group Galaxies
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents results from two projects using photometric observations to investigate stellar populations in Local Group galaxies. In the first project, Strömgren photometry is used to study stellar populations in dwarf spheroidal galaxies. LÄS MER
4. Prior-less derivation of the astrophysical factor of Dwarf Spheroidal galaxies
Sammanfattning : Dwarf spheroidal satellite galaxies (dSphs) of the Milky Way are considered ideal targets for particle Dark Matter (DM) identification. Indirect detection strategies entail examining dSphs in search for signals of annihilating or decaying DM, in the form of excess electrons or gamma- and X-ray photons above the astrophysical background. 5. A study of the Hercules dwarf spheroidal galaxy
Sammanfattning : Parts of large spiral galaxies, such as the Milky Way and Andromeda, are believed to have formed from the accretion of several smaller galaxies. Remnants of this chaotic merging era, such as dwarf spheroidal (dSph) galaxies, are visible in the outskirts of large galaxies. LÄS MER
