21. Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass : Hand-assisted Laparoscopy and Investigation of the Excluded Stomach
Sammanfattning : Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP) sustains weight loss and ameliorates diseases common in the morbid obese (BMI>40 kg/m2), but leaves the stomach and duodenum inaccessible. Morbidly obese patients have increased operative risks and in other fields minimal surgery is known to facilitate the postoperative course. LÄS MER
22. Pteridine dependent hydroxylases as autoantigens in autoimmune polyendocrine syndrome type 1
Sammanfattning : Autoimmune polyendocrine syndrome type I (APS) is a monogenous, recessively inherited disease characterised by endocrine and non-endocrine autoimmune manifestations. One fifth of APS I patients suffer from periodic intestinal dysfunction with varying degrees of malabsorbtion, steatorrhea and constipation. LÄS MER
23. Gastrointestinal mucosal protective mechanisms : Mudolatory effects of Heliobacter pyroli on the gastric mucus gel barrier and mucosal blood flow in vivo
Sammanfattning : The gastrointestinal mucus gel layer and blood flow are two important mechanisms for protection at the pre-epithelial and sub-epithelial levels, respectively. Helicobacter pylori might circumvent these mechanisms and elicit a chronic inflammatory response with consequent ulcers in the stomach and duodenum. LÄS MER
24. Immunopathological aspects of equine inflammatory bowel disease
Sammanfattning : Intestinal inflammation is a major welfare issue for horses causing colic, diarrhoea and an inability to thrive. One of the diagnoses with poor prognosis is inflammatory bowel disease (eqIBD). LÄS MER
25. EFFECTOR T CELL HOMING TO THE SMALL INTESTINAL MUCOSA
Sammanfattning : The intestinal mucosa, including the intestinal epithelium and underlying lamina propria (LP), contains a large number of effector/memory T cells that are thought to play a central role in the generation and maintenance of mucosal immune responses and in maintaining mucosal integrity. The work in this thesis investigates the mechanisms regulating effector T cell recruitment to the small intestinal mucosa focusing on the role of chemokine receptors in this process. LÄS MER
