  1. 1. Exploring the dual nature of engineering education : Opportunities and challenges in integrating the academic and professional aspects in the curriculum

    Författare :Kristina Edström; Anette Kolmos; Frederik V. Christiansen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; engineering education; professional education; dual nature; engineering education development; CDIO Initiative; CDIO approach; CDIO Standards; PBL; engineering education research; Carl Richard Söderberg; organisational gravity; institutional logics; Teknik och lärande; Technology and Learning;

    Sammanfattning : Engineering education is both academic, emphasising theory in a range of subjects, and professional, preparing students for engineering practice. Ideally, these aspects are also in a meaningful relationship in the curriculum, but the dual nature ideal is simultaneously a source of tensions. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Distributed Optimization and Control : Primal--Dual, Online, and Event-Triggered Algorithms

    Författare :Xinlei Yi; Karl H. Johansson; Dimos V. Dimarogonas; John S. Baras; Antonis Papachristodoulou; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURAL SCIENCES; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Distributed nonconvex optimization; distributed online convex optimization; distributed event-triggered control; primal-dual algorithm; stochastic gradient descent; zeroth-order algorithm; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Sammanfattning : In distributed optimization and control, each network node performs local computation based on its own information and information received from its neighbors through a communication network to achieve a global objective. Although many distributed optimization and control algorithms have been proposed, core theoretical problems with important practical relevance remain. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Advancing the Limits of Dual Fuel Combustion

    Författare :Fredrik Königsson; Hans-Erik Ångström; Arne Andersson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Diesel Dual Fuel; Methane; CNG; Biogas; Injector; Coking; Knock; Pre-ignition; Preignition; HCCI; PPCI; PPC; RCCI;

    Sammanfattning : There is a growing interest in alternative transport fuels. There are two underlying reasons for this interest; the desire to decrease the environmental impact of transports and the need to compensate for the declining availability of petroleum. In the light of both these factors the Diesel Dual Fuel, DDF, engine is an attractive concept. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Automation of Computational Mathematical Modeling

    Författare :Anders Logg; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :computational mathematical modeling; automation; adaptivity; multi-adaptivity; individual time steps; dual problem; a priori; a posteriori; model reduction; individual time steps;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the Automation of Computational Mathematical Modeling (CMM), involving the key steps of automation of (i) discretization, (ii) discrete solution, (iii) error control, (iv) modeling, and (v) optimization. The automation of (i)--(ii) is realized through multi-adaptive Galerkin methods on general discretizations of space-time with time steps variable in space. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Experimental studies of human-computer interaction : working memory and mental workload in complex cognition

    Författare :Erik Wästlund; Karlstads universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; Information processing; Problem-solving; Working memory; ST-WM; LT-WM; Dual-task; Mental workload; Reading; Page layout; VDT; Convergent; Divergent; Psykologi; Psychology; Information processing;

    Sammanfattning : Complex cognition is readily described as cognitive tasks requiring the coordination of multiple steps of processing or tasks exceeding short term memory capacity. Similarly, mental workload may be described as the use and temporary expenditure of a finite amount of information processing capacity. LÄS MER
