  1. 21. Spray-Dried Powders for Inhalation : Particle Formation and Formulation Concepts

    Författare :Jessica Elversson; Göran Alderborn; Anna Millqvist-Fureby; Lars Hovgaard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutics; Spray drying; Particle formation; Density; Protein formulation; Encapsulation; Coating; Competitive adsorption; Polymer; ESCA; AFM; FTIR; Galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics; Galenisk farmaci;

    Sammanfattning : Spray drying is a method with a high potential in the preparation of protein particles suitable for pulmonary delivery. However, surface induced denaturation of bio-molecules during atomization and subsequent drying can be substantial and it is therefore important to develop new formulation concept for concurrent encapsulation and stabilization of proteins during spray drying. 2. 22. Solar Assisted Pervaporation (SAP) : A process using membrane pouches and solar energy for the dehydration and preservation of fruit juices in rural and remote areas

    Författare :Randi Phinney; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; membrane; pervaporation; fruit preservation; solar drying; heat and mass transfer; coupling effects;

    Sammanfattning : Drying has been used for thousands of years to preserve foods. One of the first methods used was open air sun drying which exposes foods directly to solar radiation and ambient air. This method is still used today around the world but it remains underdeveloped on the small-scale for two main reasons. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Use of chemical denitrification for nitrogen removal from landfill leachates

    Författare :Aleksandra Nikolic; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Chemical denitrification; conductivity; evaporation drying; freezing thawing; leachate; nitrogen removal;

    Sammanfattning : Landfill leachate usually has a high concentration ofammonium nitrogen and heavy metals, but too low alkalinitycontent for full biological nitrification, as well as a too lowconcentration of biologically degradable organic carbon forbiological denitrification, and at the same time very variablecomposition (quantity and quality) with time. These factorsresult in serious problems for treating leachate with existingsystems. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Soil salinity as a driver of microbial community structure and functioning

    Författare :Kristin Rath; MEMEG; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Soil salinization; Soil Microbiology; soil microbial community; Bacteria; Aerobic; Fungi; Drying-rewetting; Microbial growth; Microbial biomass; Soil respiration; salinity tolerance; Saline soils; Salinity gradient;

    Sammanfattning : Soil salinization is a pressing agricultural problem in many areas of the world, particularly in areas heavily reliant on irrigation agriculture. While the negative effects of salinity on crop plants have been widely studied, its effects on soil microorganisms have received less attention, and the impact of soil salinity on both microbial community structure and functioning is not well understood. 5. 25. Process Utility Performance Evaluation and Enhancements in the Traditional Sugar Cane Industry

    Författare :Eyerusalem Deresse Birru; Andrew Martin; Catharina Erlich; Hailong Li; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sugar cane; energy saving; heat loss; steady state; transient state; CO2 emission; absorption chiller; pellet; bagasse drying; energy perfor-mance; traditional mills; modern mills; waste water; surplus power; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The need to achieve sustainable development has led to devising various approaches for the efficient utilization of natural resources. Renewable energy technology and energy efficiency measures feature prominently in this regard, and in particular for industries such as sugar production:  the sugar cane industry’s eponymous feedstock is a renewable resource, and mills have potential for increased energy savings via improvements to cogeneration units, electric drive retrofitting, and other measures.
