  1. 1. Preparation of Pharmaceutical Powders using Supercritical Fluid Technology : Pharmaceutical Applications and Physicochemical Characterisation of Powders

    Författare :Sitaram Velaga; Johan Carlfors; Kristiina Järvinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutics; Supercritical fluid; Gas Anti-Solvent; SEDS; Crystallisation; Particle design; Polymorphs; Dry powder inhalation; Solid-state behaviour; Therapeutic proteins; Precipitation; Stability; Recombinant human growth hormone hGH ; Galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics; Galenisk farmaci;

    Sammanfattning : The main aim of the thesis was to explore the potential of supercritical fluid (SF) techniques in the field of drug delivery. In particular, the relatively recently developed solution-enhanced dispersion by supercritical fluids (SEDS) technology has been employed in the preparation of particles/powders. LÄS MER

  2. 2. A Multi-Scale Approach To Adhesive Mixing

    Författare :Duy Nguyen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Adhesive particle mixing; CFD simulation; multiscale; dry particle coating; regime map.; DEM simulation; dry powders for inhalation;

    Sammanfattning : Adhesive particle mixing is a fundamental process in many applications, especially in dry powders for inhalation. Despite its importance, a mechanistic process description for designing the structure of interest is still lacking. LÄS MER

  3. 3. A novel technology for studying the disposition of drugs and toxicants in the lung : short inhalation exposures of the isolated and perfused rat lung to respirable dry particle aerosols

    Författare :Pär Ewing; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Aerosol; inhalation; rat; lung; absorption; drugs; carcinogen; particles;

    Sammanfattning : The disposition of solutes following the deposition of inhaled substances in the lung is a complex process that proceeds along parallel paths; passive diffusion of solutes through the air/blood barrier and local metabolism followed by blood-borne clearance to the circulation. Using the isolated and perfused lung (IPL) the pulmonary disposition of inhaled particles can be studied in great detail without interference from distal organs and systemic exposure. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Mechanisms of adhesive mixing for drug particle inhalation (Numerical investigation of the interplay between formulation variables)

    Författare :Mohammadreza Tamadondar; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Discrete Element Method; Agglomerate; Carrier Particle; Adhesive mixing; Dispersion; DPI-formulation;

    Sammanfattning : Formulation of therapeutic dry powders for lung drug delivery via inhalation is done via adhesive mixing. In this process, micron-sized active pharmaceutical ingredient particles are blended with relatively coarse carrier particles until stable adhesive units of carrier and drug particles are formed. 5. 5. Drug absorption in the lungs : studies in the isolated perfused rat lung model combined with physiologically based biopharmaceutics modelling

    Författare :Johanna Eriksson; Hans Lennernäs; Erik Sjögren; Helena Thörn; Ben Forbes; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pulmonary drug absorption; physiologically based biopharmaceutics modeling; pulmonary drug delivery; Biofarmaci; Biopharmaceutics;

    Sammanfattning : Pulmonary delivery of drugs is the preferred route of administration for treatment of local lung diseases like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Recently, there has also been increased interest in systemic delivery of drugs via the lungs to avoid problems with low and/or variable gastrointestinal absorption, and as a needle-free alternative for drugs that cannot be ingested.
