  1. 1. Slopes in soft clay - management of strength mobilisation

    Författare :Victoria Svahn; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; remedial measure; dry crust; climate change; Slope stability; pore water pressure; in situ stress; soft clay; shear strength mobilisation;

    Sammanfattning : Many natural and man-made slopes close to buildings or infrastructure do not demonstrate sufficient levels of safety with respect to their stability. Nonetheless, it is a requirement from society that the environment we live in is safe. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Co-disposal of waste rock and lignite fly ash to mitigate the environmental impact of coal mining

    Författare :Asif Qureshi; Björn Öhlander; Christian Maurice; Thomas Pabst; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Acid mine drainage AMD ; coal mine waste rocks; coal fly ash; co-disposal; mixing blending; dry-cover; prevention neutralisation; Tillämpad geokemi; Applied Geochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Waste rocks (WRs) from coal mining and fly ash (FA) from coal combustion were studied to determine the potential of the WRs to generate AMD, FAs to neutralise it and estimate their impacts on environment. The ultimate goal was to develop a methodology based on co-disposal to mitigate the environmental problems associated to both wastes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Deformation behaviour and chemical signatures of anorthosites: : Examples from southern West Greenland and south-central Sweden

    Författare :Henrik Svahnberg; Sandra Piazolo; Anders Scherstén; Holger Stünitz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; anorthosite; plagioclase; deformation; strain localisation; fluid-rock interaction; electron backscatter diffraction EBSD ; Solid earth geology and petrology; Berggrundsgeologi och petrologi; Mineralogy; Petrology and Geochemistry; mineralogi; petrologi och geokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Plagioclase is the most abundant mineral in the lower crust and it is thus important to constrain the behaviour of plagioclase during deformation. Anorthosites, which are plagioclase-rich rocks, are common in Archaean cratons but their origin and rheological importance is still debated. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Structural and neural network analyses of fracture systems at the Äspö Hard Rock Laboratory, SE Sweden

    Författare :Manhal Sirat; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Fractures; artificial neural networks; data analysis; Äspö HRL; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The > 10,000 fractures documented in the 450m deep Äspö Hard Rock Laboratory (HRL) provide a unique opportunity to study brittle deformation of a Swedish bedrock mass. The fracture population consists of six major sets, one subhorizontal and five sub-vertical. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Experimental investigation of hydrocarbon formation and transformation under Earth´s upper mantle conditions

    Författare :Anton Kolesnikov; Vladimir Kutcherov; Bertil Sundqvist; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; theory of deep abiotic petroleum origin; natural gas; hydrocarbons; methane; ethane; graphite; hydrogen; high pressure; high temperature; CONAC; BARS; diamond anvil cell; Raman; X-ray; gas chromatography; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Sammanfattning : The theory of the abyssal abiotic petroleum origin considers oil and natural gas to begenerated in the Earth’s upper mantle. Hydrocarbons migrate further through the deep faults into the Earth’s crust, where they can form oil and gas deposits in any kind of rock in any kind of structural position. LÄS MER
