  1. 11. Suicide and drugs. Drug related suicide mortality and physicians' prescription patterns

    Författare :Anders Carlsten; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Suicide; drug use; drug poisoning; antidepressants; benzodiazepines; prevention.;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: The aims of the study were to 1) analyse a possible association between changes in drug sales and the occurrence of drug poisoning suicides 2) assess the role of benzodiazepines in elderly suicides 3) analyse changes in suicide mortality after the introduction of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, SSRIs 4) examine physicians' inclination to prescribe benzodiazepines in low and high prescribing areas. Method: Information on suicide mortality and death certificates were obtained from Statistics Sweden. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Drug Partitioning into Natural and Artificial Membranes : Data Applicable in Predictions of Drug Absorption

    Författare :Caroline Engvall; Birgitta Tomkinson; Katarina Edwards; Sven Engström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Bilayer disk; Cholesterol; Drug partitioning; Drugs; Electrostatic effects; Immobilized liposome chromatography; Liposome; Membrane protein; Model membrane; Oligonucleotide-liposome complex; Phospholipid; Phospholipid bilayer; Proteoliposome; Surfactant; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : When drug molecules are passively absorbed through the cell membrane in the small intestine, the first key step is partitioning of the drug into the membrane. Partition data can therefore be used to predict drug absorption. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Computational Modelling in Drug Discovery : Application of Structure-Based Drug Design, Conformal Prediction and Evaluation of Virtual Screening

    Författare :Martin Lindh; Anders Karlén; Antti Poso; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; drug discovery; docking; virtual screening; tuberculosis; conformal prediction;

    Sammanfattning : Structure-based drug design and virtual screening are areas of computational medicinal chemistry that use 3D models of target proteins. It is important to develop better methods in this field with the aim of increasing the speed and quality of early stage drug discovery. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Improving the Quality and Safety of Drug Use in Hospitalized Elderly : Assessing the Effects of Clinical Pharmacist Interventions and Identifying Patients at Risk of Drug-related Morbidity and Mortality

    Författare :Anna Alassaad; Håkan Melhus; Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes; Johan Sundström; Claes Mörlin; Lene Juel Kjeldsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adverse drug events; inappropriate prescribing; medication errors; polypharmacy; medication reconciliation; medication review; patient drug counseling; multi-dose dispensed drugs; risk-estimation; multiprofessional collaboration; prediction model; quality measure; rehospitalization;

    Sammanfattning : Older people admitted to hospital are at high risk of rehospitalization and medication errors. We have demonstrated, in a randomized controlled trial, that a clinical pharmacist intervention reduces the incidence of revisits to hospital for patients aged 80 years or older admitted to an acute internal medicine ward. 5. 15. Towards Improved Medication Use : Increasing Understanding of Professional Efforts

    Författare :Ingeborg Björkman; Cecilia Bernsten; Ingrid Schmidt; Ebba Holme-Hansen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Health services research; drug quality problems; drug and therapeutics committees; pharmaceutical care; perceptions; patient centeredness; Hälso- och sjukvårdsforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Professionals and researchers have developed a number of strategies aimed at improving the quality and safety of medication use. However, studies continue to demonstrate persistent problems. For instance, the first paper in this thesis reveals the prevalence of potentially harmful drug combinations among elderly people in Europe. LÄS MER
