  1. 1. Hazards of Drug Therapy : On the Management of Adverse Drug Reactions: From Signal Detection and Evaluation to Risk Minimization

    Författare :Karin Hedenmalm; Marja-Liisa Dahl; Gunnar Alvan; Ellen Vinge; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacology; adverse drug reactions; spontaneous reporting systems; drug regulation; pharmacovigilance; incidence; Farmakologi; Pharmacological research; Farmakologisk forskning;

    Sammanfattning : Spontaneous reporting systems (SRSs) for adverse drug reactions (ADRs) have been developed as a result of the thalidomide disaster, whereby thousands of children world-wide were born with birth defects. The Swedish Adverse Drug Reactions Advisory Committee was established in 1965. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Enhancing Health Among Drug Users in Prison

    Författare :Anne H. Berman; Ulf Lundberg; Hans Bergman; James McGuire; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; drug use; prison; screening; auricular acupuncture; cognitive-behavioral treatment; psychiatric co-morbidity; existential issues; health; risk management; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Four interrelated studies on drug users in prison are presented within the framework of a proposed model for approaching the enhancement of health for persons that builds on an existential view of prisoners’ needs, as well as the risk management and “good lives” perspectives. Risk management is the major focus in current offender rehabilitation based on research on “what works,” which has shown that focusing treatment on risk factors termed “criminogenic needs,” such as impulsivity, poor family relations and drug abuse, reduces recidivism by 10-15 percentage points. 3. 3. Epidemiological aspects of drug-related vitamin D deficiency and osteoporotic fractures

    Författare :Ola Nordqvist; Martin Carlsson; Pär Wanby; Thomas Neumark; Björn Wettermark; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vitamin D; secondary osteoporosis; fractures; drug risk management; medical guideline adherence; electronic health records; real-world data; risk assessment; awareness; attitudes; personalised medicine; cross-sectional study; cohort study; qualitative analysis; thematic analysis; pharmacoepidemiology; Biomedical Sciences; Biomedicinsk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Vitamin D deficiency, secondary osteoporosis and low-energy fractures (LEF) as side effects of specific drugs were first described more than half a century ago. These effects are recognized in guidelines where patients prescribed risk drugs are recommended follow-up with testing and supplementation. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Pharmacokinetic drug-drug interactions in the management of malaria, HIV and tuberculosis

    Författare :Doaa Elsherbiny; Ulrika Simonsson; Mats Karlsson; Lars Ståhle; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Pharmacokinetics Pharmacotherapy; Pharmacokinetics; Drug-drug interactions; Cytochrome P-450; Artemisinin antimalarials; Nevirapine; Lopinavir; Rifampicin; NONMEM; Farmakokinetik Farmakoterapi;

    Sammanfattning : Malaria, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and tuberculosis (TB) are global health problems having their worst situation in sub-Saharan Africa. Consequently, concomitant use of antimalarial, antiretroviral and antitubercular drugs may be needed, resulting in a potential risk of drug-drug interactions. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Potentially inappropriate drug treatment among older people with cognitive impairment

    Författare :Eva Sönnerstam; Maria Gustafsson; Maria Sjölander; Hugo Lövheim; Ylva Böttiger; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Older people; major neurocognitive disorder; cognitive impairment; potentially inappropriate medications; drug-drug interactions; renal function; adverse drug reactions; nursing homes; time trends; Clinical Pharmacology; klinisk farmakologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The aging process contributes to alterations in organ systems, which lead to an increased risk for chronic conditions. Drug treatment is an important strategy in the management of chronic conditions; however, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic alterations contribute to increased sensitivity to drug effects. LÄS MER
