21. Development and application of new methods for anticancer drug discovery and early evaluation
Sammanfattning : A non-clonogenic assay using the redox dye Alamar Blue and primary human tumor cells (PHTC) from patients and human tumor cell lines (HTCL) was established for rapid screening and evaluation of anticancer drugs. PHTC cultures from chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and ovarian carcinoma (Ovca) were compared with renal carcinoma (ACHN) and lymphocytic (CCRF-CEM) HTLCs in response to 63 toxic or non-toxic compounds. 22. Hit Identification and Hit Expansion in Antituberculosis Drug Discovery : Design and Synthesis of Glutamine Synthetase and 1-Deoxy-D-Xylulose-5-Phosphate Reductoisomerase Inhibitors
Sammanfattning : Since the discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) as the bacterial agent causing tuberculosis, the permanent eradication of this disease has proven challenging. Although a number of drugs exist for the treatment of tuberculosis, 1.7 million people still die every year from this infection. LÄS MER
23. Computational and Experimental Models for the Prediction of Intestinal Drug Solubility and Absorption
Sammanfattning : New effective experimental techniques in medicinal chemistry and pharmacology have resulted in a vast increase in the number of pharmacologically interesting compounds. However, the number of new drugs undergoing clinical trial has not augmented at the same pace, which in part has been attributed to poor absorption of the compounds. LÄS MER
24. Change in the Pharmaceutical Industry : Aspects on Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Openness, and Decision Making
Sammanfattning : Over the past century, the pharmaceutical industry has been a major contributor of individual and population health and societal wealth. Its products and services have contributed to longevity of large groups of patients and symptom relief from major diseases. LÄS MER
25. Proteomic and Functional Analysis of In Vitro Systems for Studies of Drug Disposition in the Human Small Intestine and Liver
Sammanfattning : To reach the bloodstream, an orally administered drug must be absorbed through the small intestine and avoid extensive clearance in the liver. Estimating these parameters in vitro is therefore important in drug discovery and development. LÄS MER
